This is a through hole, DIY version of the classic Mutable Braids. Apart of being TH, it differs on the original in the DAC, which has 12 bits of resolution instead the original 16 Bit. Apart of that, they are basically the same.

It comes in 3 flavours:

PCB Only

It contains both PCBs and Panel.
User will have to source the rest of components.

AN ATLAS OF WAVEFORM GENERATION TECHNIQUES

Braids is a voltage-controlled monophonic digital sound source.
Most of the timbres it generates are so complex that approaching them with a classic analog modular setup would require a full case of oscillators, filters, VCAs, waveshapers and ring-modulators – that’s why we call it a macro-oscillator – intricate digital synthesis algorithms wrapped in oscillator’s clothes.

2 KNOBS TO RULE THEM ALL

Each algorithm is controlled by two continuously variable parameters, TIMBRE and COLOR, both of them voltage controllable.
Instead of being directly assigned to the intricate details of the synthesis algorithm, they work as meta-parameters going through all the sweet spots.
Very often, these parameters simultaneously affect several dimensions of timbre, creating very complex movements which would be hard to generate with a traditional setup.

Kudos to Nicolas of sound-force.nl as he reworked the PCB to do it Through Hole and shared all the files.

Very Nice kit

This is a clone of the very succesful Braids by Mutable Instruments. This is particulary an easier to put together one, for several reasons.

One: This is a trough-hole version, where-as the original and most other clones are SMD, which is a lot harder to get right as a beginner/intermediate.

Two: Spherical Sound Society includes some more difficult to find parts in the kit (including an already programmed micro-controller), which makes it sourcing parts easier. (Still not simple, in this chip-shortage in Q1 of 2021)

Three: Shipping from within the EU is so much faster than from the US !

love it

Built one of these , it sounds really nice smooth and gritty and anywhere in-between , ive not heard one with 16bit dacs but the 12 bit ones sound great , was a easy ish build and the two pcb's go together really well so no wiring , highly recomend it , think ill build myself another one

Looking forward to it!

Got the boards in the mail today, they're really nice quality. It took about a month to get to the US from Spain, not bad considering the state of the world right now. I'm looking forward to putting everything together!
