What is it?

Macro keyboard with rotary encoder, space for 4 WS2812B LEDs, and GPIO breakout for optional OLED display or other uses.

(December 13, 2022) As listed currently, what's available is the board only, or the board with 4 WS2812B LEDs soldered on. You can also buy a rotary encoder and keyswitches, but you'll need to provide other components, including a Pro Micro board, to make this complete.

Why did you make it?

I was inspired by other keyboards, as well as my previous attempts at such a device. Having rotary control over screen actions is often more satisfying than simply pressing a key. As for the name: JC Pro Macro seemed somewhat memorable: My initials, plus a nod to the "Pro Micro" that powers it.

What makes it special?

• Powered by an "Arduino" Pro Micro ATmega32U4 dev board, the device features 5 keyswitches that can be programmed to perform any HID action. A rotary encoder forms the final input element, which can be used to control volume or other "rotary-y" elements, and provides a 6th input switch. In addition to these somewhat common elements, the JC Pro Macro features:
• 4 GPIO pins broken out, including the SDA and SCL I2C pins (previous version, shown in some images, only had two. These can be used to control a 1306-style OLED display, and/or for whatever other purposes you like. Space for I2C resistors is included on the board.
• Space for 4 WS2812B 5050 addressable LEDs
• Beautiful matte black finish
• Pro Micro board resides in the middle, partially resting under a large encoder knob, providing a nice compact footprint.
• Standard program is used for media control (volume, song skip/back, play/pause), and features a "jiggler" mode that keeps your computer awake and looking like someone is at least fiddling with the mouse. Code includes the capability to use with Final Cut X and other options, which can be configured before programming.
