What is it?

A SPI Flash programmer with a level shifter. Compatible with a wide range of flash chips that operate at any voltage from 1.8 V to 5 V.

The board is able to supply 3.3 or 5 V to the target or it can be used as an in-system-programmer and adapt to the voltage level of the target.

Because it's based on an FT232H and a bidirectional level shifter, this same board could be used as a multi-voltage UART->USB adapter!

Why did you make it?

I wanted a way to program the SPI flash chip inside my laptops without having a stack of Teensy, adapter board, and level shifter. This way, I can experiment with Coreboot and always have a recovery method!

What makes it special?

Designed to be as thin as possible, so it can be soldered into a laptop and left in place (with some dremel work to expose the USB port). Also, the level shifter sets its outputs to high impedance when not in use so the laptop can continue working with the programmer installed.
