What is it?

This is a cheap entry level bridged chipamp.

Specifications:

• Size: 111 x 50 x 15 mm
• Supply voltage: 9.6-16V single supply (ok for car as long as there are no bad voltage spikes)
• Output power: up to 9W 8ohm (recommended), 13W 4ohm (not recommended by TexasInstruments)

(I have had 0 thermal and over current shutdowns with 4ohm loads, however benching amp into 4ohm makes it seriously hot. If reaching thermal shutdown temperature (specified to be at 150-190deg.C) amp lifetime can certainly be shortened.)

• Frequency response: 1Hz-95kHz (-3dB)
• Distortion: <0.1% total at 1kHz 1W 8ohm resistive load
• Amplification: 10 times
• Connections: Screw terminals that can be unplugged
• Protection: over current, over dissipation and over temperature shut down, NO DC PROTECTION (you may want to protect valuable and sensitive speakers with a DC protection circuit)
• Additional features: Anti-on-off-pop

Why did you make it?

I had to complete one project course to the Novia University of Applied Sciences. It was new years eve and raining cats and dogs. I could not go out and shoot fireworks. So I designed and built this on a piece of proto board. Later I designed a proper PCB, which is now for sale.

What makes it special?

It is compact, simple and low cost. PCB works as a heat sink for the SMD power amplifier chip. I have used it with a pair of 4290€ Piega speakers (among others) with good success. Sound is not bad at all, but a 5000€ class-A amp will of course be better. It is designed in Finland, PCB comes from China, all parts are sourced from Finland or Germany. Panasonic FC electrolytics, Kemet coupling cap. If agreed on it will also be hand assembled in Finland. Price is cost of BOM from DigiKey.

Delivery contains all parts, components, PCB and terminals. You only need cables and powersupply(ies). Remember to use star ground if you use several channels.

If you want these with simple or no terminals, then ask. It will be a bit cheaper.
