So what makes this board so special? Any different from other ESP32 development boards? Well, this thing is all about low power - specifically, getting crazy long battery life

The trigBoard is an extremely low power platform for the ESP32 WiFi+Bluetooth Module. This board is perfect for battery powered applications, due to it's single digit uA standby current draw ~1.5uA with a 3V battery input. To give an idea as to how low this current draw is, a cheap smoke detector pulls about 7uA. This board was initially designed to be the ideal IoT device - a WiFi connected battery powered monitoring solution for dry contacts (door/window sensors), where a push notification is immediately sent when the contact state has changed. The ultra low standby current does not change regardless if the contact remains in the closed/opened state (this is part of the secret sauce in the trigBoard design). But of course, the trigBoard is a playground of low power features, so it can easily be adapted to a unique monitoring application:

Many battery options, with input voltage range from 1.8-5V. Great for two AAA batteries or even a rechargeable Lithium cell at 4.2V. Reverse polarity protection built in, so no issues if batteries are plugged in backwards. Note that only the battery input can power the board! The 6 pin programming header cannot deliver power. Battery input is based on standardized JST PH 2.0mm connector (Adafruit polarity) - holders available as an add-on.
Multiple wake sources all configurable through software (no solder jumpers)
Dry contact trigger input supporting BOTH contact OPEN and contact CLOSE, but configurable for either or both, so if for example a garage door was monitored, a push notification could go out for when the garage opens AND when the garage closes. Also based on JST PH 2.0mm connector - high quality magnetic sensors available with cable as an add-on.
The board utilizes an actual RTC (Real Time Clock). This is a high quality RTC, so accurate wake times can be configured. The timer wakes the board up at the configured time - for example once and hour, then checks the battery voltage and if low, will send out a push notification. The timer can also be used to check the current status of the contact and send out a notification, so in the garage door example, the board can be configured to not only send out notifications when the door opens/closes, but also when the garage is left open for some period of time after the door was opened.
Clock Wake/Timestamps introduced in base firmware 8/16/21 allow for a daily alarm to wake the board up with many other options like adding time stamps to messages and synchronizing with an NTP server. This can be useful for a number of reasons like for applications that rarely wake, this can send a daily "heartbeat" message. Or even as a "run time" clock, if you don't set the time with the NTP server, it starts at zero, so the timestamp can tell you elapsed time since that board was powered up.
Wake button on board can also be used to send out a push notification.
Unused pins from ESP32 broken out for future expansion and in-line to fit breadboards - developer friendly.
Base Firmware supports many Push Notification service options like Pushsafer, Pushover, IFTTT, and now Telegram. And even develop a custom solution with MQTT and UDP/TCP messaging. Any of these can be enabled, or even multiple. For example, the notifications can go out through Pushover, then a secondary backup notification can go through MQTT. Or even a notification though Pushsafer, then turn the lights on in the house with IFTTT. The possibilities are endless with this.
MQTT support lets you connect this to Home Assistant (see the docs) - that takes this to another level all together! From there you can tie this into your entire system and create automations, alerts, run scripts, etc... with a simple value_template, trigBoard integrates in just a couple steps!
Configuration software gives full control over the board parameters and settings - in a nice clean easy to use GUI through Google Chrome and a Bluetooth connection to the ESP32. WARNING - does need a somewhat modern computer with Bluetooth Windows 10/Mac and can also work with Linux.

trigBoard works as expected. More to explore.

I would use it in battery operated IOT projects. It is not cheap but I see gold plated pins and professional soldering. Will buy it again for high-end projects

Excellent clever product with support to match it 100%

I initially bought a few Trigboards with accessories as an assessment for the requirement at my cabin with no internet and only cell service. I mocked up the Particle BORON cellphone based variation. Once I played around with it a bit I realized I have not tapped into the full potential and that the system works very well. I purchased several more boards and I am putting it all together now. Kevin’s support with my questions has been quick, very helpful and also enthusiastic. His documentation with videos are outstanding. It is clear he enjoys this and want to see his product succeed. Excellent, clever product with support to match it 100%.
I cant wait for the next idea with following project. Well done.

Great product

I attached the trigboard to my Havahart trap while dealing with a squirrel infestation. The magnetic sensor alerts me when the trap is activated. This minimizes the animal's distress as I can react more quickly. Trigboard works perfectly for this use case and very easy to set up.

Amazing little board.

This is a great little thing designed by Kevin. It works exactly as described and the documentation is very clear. I needed to get in touch with Kevin regarding a query I had and he answered extremely quickly and was very helpful.
I’d recommend this to anyone who is thinking about getting one....or two. Take the plunge, you won’t be disappointed.

Very happy - works like a charm

I had an idea, looked for a solution to detect water, found the trigboard and ordered it immediately. It was mailed to me the day after and I received it (in Belgium) soon after. So happy already with the service.
Being a complete nitwit in electronics I duly followed the schema on the wiki, and guess what. It works! So very happy indeed.

What is there not to like.

Lowest power consumption on the market. Kevin did a remarkable job with this product. The documentation and web page for configuration are more than any other ESP32 chip out there. The configuration is easy enough for an 8th grader. I am using one of them (3 purchased) to monitor mailbox and another to monitor ejector pump for failure. Would and will buy again.

I would give this board a "10" if I could.

This is my first excursion into the ESP32 world, so I was a little nervous about programming and configuring the trigBoard. Boy, was that anxiety a waste of time! Since what I wanted was to be notified whenever my mailbox is opened or closed, there were no programming requirements. The firmware on the trigBoard will already do that as is. All I needed to do was mount the magnetic contacts in my mailbox, and configure my wifi information onto the board over Bluetooth. Both were simple and easy. For that reason, I would highly recommend getting the magnetic contacts, battery enclosure, and case at the same time when ordering the board. They are available on the same Tindie site and are inexpensive. Another suggestion is to follow Kevin Darrah's YouTube video with regards to configuration.. I tried different combinations of Windows, browsers, and even my phone's Android. Only Windows10/Chrome/Bluetooth worked successfully. Don't be fooled by using Android to configure the trigBoard. Even though the configuration interface will display on the phone, and it allows you to input all of the information, something gets "mangled" when transferring data to/from the board. All in all, I am very happy with this product, and it works flawlessly.

Perfect device and best deal on the internet.

If you can't think of 8 different ways to use this board, you aren't trying. This is a versatile device to sense an open circuit and send push notification from a tiny, device powered by a super long lasting battery and an extremely low power device. I have deployed these for gate status, door status, and 120vGFI live or flipped socket status. They work great out of the box but the maker who sells this also makes the firmware available for modification.

A pleasure to use

Been watching Kevin’s videos on YouTube for a while. Grabbed a couple of the trig boards when they became available. Very nice. First one is installed in my mailbox. Second one is waiting for a fun project idea. If you know anything about Arduino, between the videos and the wiki for info, you can’t go wrong with the trig board.

Trigboard V7... expectations met

I moved to trigboard Ver 7 to use PushSafer rather than the version 4 Pushbullet notifications.
PushSafer is German internet based service to push notifications. I find it fast and reliable.
From the mailbox to actual use with the preconfigured trigboard load took 15 minutes or less.
As for user configuration the version 7 trigboard is much improved over version 4.

Great device

Works as advertised. Was able to follow the documentation to modify the built-in code to send an HTTPS web request to a Raspberry Pi on my local network instead of the default Push Safer. Who wants to rely on external services anyway?! Hardest part was crimping a JST connector to a magnetic door sensor to connect to the Trigboard.

Excellent design and documentation

Great board, designed up run an ESP8266 on a battery, for long periods of time.
Excellent implementation.
All hardware and firmware available for custom tuning for your application needs.
My only wish, is the designer should start selling his Excellent LTC2945 board on Tindie.

What a cool little product. Perfect for my applications.

I bought two of these to test a monitoring situation I have and now wonder how I'd do this otherwise. It's very clear to me now that will a full charge on a 1000 mAh battery there is no telling how long it'll run before a battery swap will be required. So far they voltage level has not budged after two weeks of use. And I just bought two more. One to let me know when my mail comes and the other on stand by because there will be something else I'll want to track!

Amazing and well thought out!

The trigBoard is an impressively engineered low power device for your home automation, or IoT projects. I had the board up and running in just a few minutes! I chose a tilt switch to activate the “trigger” and followed the well documented instructions. It was awesome when I received my first push notification on my phone! The documentation, and support is impressive, and the seller responded to a quick question right away. I would recommend this product to any skill level from beginner to engineer.

Great value but a little hard to set up.

This was my first time to set up such a device. The videos and documentation was more for the person who knows the development environment for Arduino type devices. Since I don't know this environment, explaining the buzz words or replacing them with easier to understand language would help. As a retired electrical engineer, I could follow the author's design well for the circuits. What I am less experienced with is the software and APPs. BTW, the PushBullet APP is run by greedy developers.

Super stingy little board, the way I like it

This little board is amazing. I'm using it in a solar tracking project where I want to send data back to the mothership when an event trips. When not collecting or sending data, I want the project to use very little power and this board lets me do that really easily. I can see that a lot of attention went into the design and the documentation is first class -- really well done and easy to get things up and running. I contacted the developer and he got back to me ASAP. Big Kudos!
