In 2020, driven by the scarcity of sensors with home automation connectivity, I began developing the first MoreSense air quality sensor, the MoreSense MS-01. Although MoreSense products are still technically classified as DIY, they have evolved into professional and reliable sensors, offering far more features than those typically found in standard products.

The MoreSense MS-06 is designed to measure carbon dioxide (CO₂), temperature, and relative humidity. The sensor features a 2.8-inch resistive touchscreen for displaying measurements and making settings. The MS-06 uses the Sensirion SCD40 sensor, known for its precision and compact size, utilizing photoacoustic non-dispersive infrared sensor technology.

The sensor can optionally be connected to a WiFi network (not mandatory) and can be linked to many home automation systems, including Domoticz and Home Assistant, using MQTT or REST. Both Domoticz and Home Assistant support autodiscovery (via MQTT), allowing the sensors to be automatically added. It can also be connected to Homey. For Homey, no MQTT server is required, but the HomeyDuino app (available for free in the Homey app store) is needed. Measurements can also be retrieved using an HTTP GET command (REST), with the data returned in JSON format.

This sensor can be used to control a ventilation system, potentially leading to significant savings. In winter, you don’t need to exhaust your valuable warm air if it’s not necessary. Control is possible via your home automation system or directly through smart plugs. A suitable smart plug is also available if needed.
