The Neon816 is an 8/16-bit motherboard built around the 65c816. It is an all new design built with current production parts.

Notes about Developer Edition

This is an early release of the board. As such, the FPGA firmware is not entirely complete. The system boots to a FORTH system over a serial console, but as of yet the video controller is not completely operational.

For this reason, the Developer edition includes a JTAG programmer and a TagConnect cable suitable for updating the FPGA firmware as it develops.

• 2 Atari or Sega-style joystick ports. Works with almost any Sega Master System or Genesis controller, including 6 button, as well as Atari or Commodore style joysticks.
• DVI-D output and HD-Audio pinout case audio connections to make connection to modern displays easy.
• PC-style floppy drive controller.
• ATX power connector, including support for soft power.
• SD card connector.
• PS/2 keyboard input

Also some retro and general fun:

• Commodore serial bus.
• MIDI in and out.
• GPIO header for user IO.

Specifications:

• Western Design Center W65c816S fully static 6502-compatible 16-bit CPU.
• 1MB of main system ram and an additional 512k of video RAM.
• 128k of Flash for system ROM image.
• Lattice XP2 8000LUT FPGA for video and audio generation.

Kit Form

The board comes in a partial kit form, with all the surface-mount soldering completed but the majority of the connectors provided separately. You will need appropriate soldering equipment to attach the connectors and perform through-hole soldering.

Please note that the metal standoffs pictured in the board corners are for photographic purposes and are not included.
