Read More…While I have only tested M.2 heatsinks with a 40mm fan, the new flat top can accommodate a wider variety of heatsinks. The flat exposed surface is 45mm wide. Heatsink is secured to the new copper plate by soldering or thermal epoxy (not included.)
A 3D printable mount for a 40mm x 10 fan is available to download here: fan mount
There are 2 ways to power an external 5v fan:
A fan with USB power cord is easiest and simplest. A USB-A to USB-C adapter can be used to power the fan off the Steam Deck, or portable USB charger can be used.
Powering the external fan off the Steam Deck requires cutting and splicing the new fan wires to the existing fan wires. These wires are very small and short so care should be taken.
Optional countersunk screw option has the 3 mounting holes of the Cooldeck countersunk and includes three M2 x 6mm countersunk screws with 1.3mm allen key.
