This handheld game console uses the Raspberry Pi pico to for playing original game boy games. Allows easy connection of a LCD screen, button controls, battery charging, sound circuitry, and speaker to the Raspberry pico in a compact form factor.

The Game Boy emulator used is Peanut-GB by Mahyar Koshkouei /deltabeard with some changes done by YouMakeTech to support sound and accommodate SD card menu/save games on Raspberry Pi Pico. Plays most of the 1000+ game boy games at 60fps.

Parts kit includes:

• game-boy pico PCB
• 2.2in 176x220 TFT LCD screen with ILI9225 driver
• MAX98357 DAC module with 1.8w amplifier
• Micro USB Li-ion charging board
• 2W speaker
• 18650 Li-ion battery holder
• 8 buttons
• power switch

Not included:

• Raspberry pico or pin compatible clone
• SD card (4GB or less recommended)
• 18650 Li-ion battery

Assembly:

• Download the .uf2 file from YouMakeTech's Github page (download link below) and install to the pico using his guide.
• Format SD card to fat32. Install uncompressed games with .gb extension in root of SD card.
• Place the MAX98357 DAC in the rectangular opening of the PCB and use solid wire to make the 7 connections.
• Place the USB battery charging board over the 4 square pads and insert wires in the holes to align them before soldering in place.
• Install the buttons / power switch and solder in place.
• Solder two 20 pin header receptacles for the Raspberry pico (recommended) or it can be soldered directly to the PCB after installing the .uf2 file. Remember the pico is installed on the solder side of the PCB.
• Trim all the soldered pins with a cutter. This is needed to avoid possible short circuits.
• Solder a 4 pin header to the LCD screen's SD card pins.
• Place the LCD screen power / data pins in the PCB holes. Insert a spacer between the PCB components and the LCD screen to ensure the parts aren't touching and possibly causing a short circuit.
• Solder one pin on each side of the LCD then check the height to ensure the screen is level with the PCB. Adjust as necessary, then solder the remaining LCD and SD card pins. Trim these soldered pins as well.
• Solder the 18650 Li-ion battery holder in place with positive polarity on the power switch side.
• Trim and strip speaker wires then solder to the speaker pads on the PCB. Secure speaker with hot glue.
• Insert 18650 battery and SD card to play.

Notes:

• Press select + start to return to game menu.
• Hold select + up / down to set volume.
• Hold select + left / right to change color palette.
• Game boy color games are not supported
