The Super 8 bit is a new game console design that can play any Nintendo NES or Famicom game cartridge. By using the original CPU and PPU, the most authentic gameplay experience is recreated with greatly enhanced audio and video capabilities. The Super 8 bit will work with nearly all accessories for NES or Famicom.

The CPU and PPU chips need to be de-soldered and removed from an original NES or Famicom console. A NESRGB add-on board is required for RGB video & s-video output.

The newest v3.5 design has small changes over v3.4 to make installing a NESRGB v4 easier and simpler connection of the included controller port PCB.

Assembly / Usage Notes:

On Super 8 bit v3.4 and earlier if you are using an Everdrive flashcart, remove the 68p ceramic capacitor near the PPU to fix the menu glitches.
If connecting a NESRGB v4 or IGR mod, set the correct reset jumper: All versions of the Super 8 bit are reset when the "RST" pin is pulled low.

Fun project for making a famicom and nes system

I wanted to build a famicom or nes with a upright cartridge. The old nes had many issues with carts not reading. The famicom was great but lacked composite, (I have a famicom a/v). Having a a 2in1 sounds like a great idea. I bought a couple of famicoms to use for the project. They are cheap to get compared to nes. The skill level for this project is intermediate level. I suggest using a desoldering station to remove chips from famicom. They are soldered though the board and difficult to remove if you are using just the old wick technique. I will eventually will build some sort of plexiglass case and use the add on board for the controller ports. I am using composite and no rgb though. It is good enough for me and if I wanted hdmi then i would just use an emulator.
The board is nicely labeled making installing the components with the correct polarity easy.
I am using 12v. I tried 9v and I could not get it to work. Original nes or famicom have different polarity and nes might be AC power FYI.
Couple of mistakes I made. I tried using the old ram but was not able to get it work. Never spent much time to investigate it though. The ram listed on the bom is cheap and easily found.
I did have a couple of questions and the designer responded to my questions.

Super 8 bit......

Well what can I say, this thing is fricking awesome. Ordered last week, shipped to the UK, arrived today. Spend a few hours piecing it all together, and the result is absolutely stunning (I have used a NESRGB v4 from eTim too). Huge congrats on the work and anyone thinking about this, dont wait, order it, you wont be disappoint.
