What is it?

This is a small form factor boost converter module based on the MT3608. It can deliver 5W output with a 1A max output current. Up to 85% efficiency at maximum load. There is a solder jumper (SB1) that can be bridged to set the output to 12V.

Max output ripple voltage (measured at C5) is around 100mV with 5V output. With a 5W load on the output, the board gets warm.

The board will come up with straight and right angle connectors. The connector spacing and hole sizing allows users to solder terminal blocks (instead of connectors).

The input voltage range tested is 2.5V to 4.2V (at 2.5V, care must be taken with wire/trace width to ensure minimum voltage drop into and out of the board). This voltage range is ideal to be used with a single cell (or 1S, multi-parallel) Li-Ion applications.

Why did you make it? What makes it special?

While there are plenty of MT3608 boost converter modules out there, a lot of them lack proper design elements. This design includes high quality capacitors at the input and output, along with a high quality, high current capable inductor (4.7uH). All parts were sourced from reputable sources. Designed and hand built in the USA.
