This board breaks out all the I2C pins into 0.1" headers as well as a STEMMA QT connector. The breakout has all of the ADC input channels broken out into a 2x10 connector (8 ADC inputs + power and ground). The signals are connected to both rows, allowing for easy debugging and connections from the load.
This breakout board features the ADS7828 from TI. It has 8 analog inputs with a 50kHz sample rate. It uses I2C communication protocol and supports standard, fast and high-speed modes. The IC can accept supply voltages from 2.7V to 5V, making it perfect for 5V and 3.3V MCU's alike. With 4 possible I2C address combination, multiple modules can be connected on the same I2C bus.
Please NOTE: By default this board has the VREF pin left open with a bypass capacitor, so the internal reference should be used. If an external reference is desired, the SB1 jumper can be desoldered and an external voltage applied on TP1.
Each analog input has an RC filter (100Ohm / 10nF), providing filter and input protection.
The IC is bypassed with 4.7uF and 0.1uF capacitors.
By default the I2C address pins (A1 and A0) are connected to VCC. These can be pulled to GND by soldering the jumpers A1 and A0.
There is an Arduino library for this IC: https://docs.arduino.cc/libraries/ads7828/
Soldering is required for this module. The header pins will come with the board and will need to be soldered.
Why did you make it? I didn't find a simple breakout for the ADS7828 IC at the price point I was looking for. Also, I wanted plenty of points to be able to probe, which is why I included 2 sets of IC communication connectors and also a dual row 10-pin connector for the analog inputs (which includes VCC and GND pins), this allows one pin to be used to apply an external voltage and pin for monitoring (making it very easy to debug).
This board can be used for anyone looking to develop software using the ADS7828 IC or for a simple 8-channel ADC IC.
What makes it special? All parts are genuine and of good quality. The board is built in the USA.
Dimensions: The board size is 48.5mm x 32mm. The 4 mounting holes are 3.5mm in diameter.
