It blinks / fades its LEDs.
The dual-colour version (hardware option) can display three colours: two base colours + a mixture of the two.
Best used at night or in dark places!
To switch between different modes (stored in EEPROM), use a piece of wire or paper-clip to short the 2 centermost pins on the front - the ones with tiny holes - and power it up (video). Repeating this process cycles through all available modes. Make sure to not connect any other pins.
Adjust the firmware and reprogram yourself as needed! This requires a working AVR-GCC toolchain (linux) or AVRStudio (winblows) and a programming adapter that fits to 1.27mm-spaced pads.
Please note: The voltage ranges above indicate when the board is still operational, they're not 'ideal' working conditions. Use 5V for best results.
The micro-controller comes programmed with the latest firmware.
You'll find ready-to-upload hex-files in the code repository. This requires an ISP programmer for AVR chips (usbtiny, avrispmkII, usbasp ...) and basic knowledge how to use it. The FUSE-settings for the micro are part of the file name. You will probably also need the pogo-pin adapter mentioned above.
If you want, you can use the Arduino-IDE + an attiny13 dummy-core to recompile the firemware yourself. Works on linux and windows. The necessary files / howto can be found in the code-repository. Code upload needs a supported ISP programmer (e.g. avrispmkii).
Although these devices are functional as 'buttons', i.e. can be used instead of ordinary buttons, they do contain tiny parts that can get hurt in every day use. They are intended to be ornamental and shouldn't be subjected to too much mechanical stress.
