Typically a month of celebration and remembrance, this year it feels a bit different but certainly no less important. I wanted to create a pin to celebrate this important annual event as well as provide a unique way for anyone to show their own pride and/or support for the LGBTQ community.
The pin simply says PRIDE in exposed copper (ENIG finish), with 2020 shown in white silkscreen. It features 6 LEDs in the colors of the pride flag (purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, red) plus 4 white LEDs for 2020. The copper traces are visible and designed to impart the idea that PRIDE is powering the rainbow of LEDs.
The pin is powered by a single CR2032 coin cell battery (included). The simple repeating animation lights the LEDs in order, and is created using the ubiquitous 555 timer with a decade counter IC. The back of the pin has a butterfly clasp so you can pin it to a shirt, hat, backpack, etc. The pin is approximately 2" in diameter.
Two "flavors"
The design allows the six rainbow-colored LEDs to be aligned horizontally under the word PRIDE, or to be placed in a circular fashion around the perimeter of the pin (see the video for both versions). I couldn't decide which I preferred, so I've built some of both. Choose yours when you add to cart.
