What is it? This is a PCB set. It contains two PCB's: The main PCB and the lightbulb PCB The main pcb is a PCB with audio amplifier and MP3 decoder VS1053. You can solder a socket to attach a ESP32 Devkit. This main PCB combined with a ESP32 Devkit is all you need to get a functional Internet Radio. (off course you'll also need a power supply and some speakers). But there is more....The main pcb also has connectors to attach a Rotary encoder, a LCD, a potmeter, 2 PIXEL WS2812 LEDStrips and even a SD card!( All are optional, the webinterface will work without them and the radio will play)

The lightbulb PCB is a small PCB with 4 Pixel leds. This is to illuminate a lightbulb from the buttom so that it looks like the lightbulb is on.

Why did you make it? This project is based on the internet radio by Ed Smallenburg. He did an awesome job in creating a working internet-based radio. He shared his coding and hardware on the world wide web so that people like you and me can learn from it. He shared his build on GitHub using the copyleft license. (It basically comes down to: use it, modify it as needed, don't copyright it and share….) So naturally, I did the same. All information is available for download. I did add a few extra options to his code:

What makes it special? As you might have noticed, this project is named the Edison Radio. Thomas Edison was a great inventor who, amongst other things, improved the microphone for telephones by developing a carbon microphone. In ways, more than one, Edison contributed to worldwide communication. However, his greatest invention was not this carbon microphone or even his well-known phonograph but, it was the invention of the light bulb by far! Without Edison, we might still be using candles to bring light in darkness. That is why this radio has a light bulb as centrepiece. .. O yeah, this 100% optional attribute also looks kind of cool 😊

Furthermore, I added some code to implement the following • Search engine to find Internet Radio station by country. • Find and implement the station's Logo and display it on the browser interface. • Spectrum analyser on the TFT Screen • LED VU meter with Pixel leds WS2812 • Sliders for changing Audio Settings.

Carefull! If you decide to order a PCB without components, remember that some SMD components are very small and the VS1053 is a piece of work! So make sure you have to skill to do some proper soldering! Depending on demand, I will offer pre-assembled PCB's.

Pre-Assembled PCB This Main PCB has all SMD components pre-soldered and are included in the price. ( except seven 100nf capacitors (SMD0805)at the bottom side are NOT included but are reasonably easy to solder). To complete this PCB all you need to do is buy, place and solder all trough-hole components. This means connectors, audio transformer, Fuse, ESP32 DEVKIT and some headers and jumpers The small Round lightbulb PCB components are not included! The assembled PCB will be tested before shipping to ensure full functionality!
