This board is a breakout containing a 16 Mhz (or 12/20 MHz) crystal, two caps (and an optional resistor) to be used when breadboarding with Atmel ATmega or Microchip PIC microcontrollers that have the two crystal pins next to a GND pin. Among others the very popular ATmega328 and PIC18F2550 have this configuration.

With this board you can just plug it in and have the crystal and the loading caps already done and properly connected.

If you're using a microcontroller without a GND pin next to the oscillator pins you can snip off the GND pin on the 0.1" header and connect the GND by the flywire from the top.

And of course - since the flywire is not needed for the most common microcontroller you can desolder or just cut it off if you don't want it dangling.

The picture with the breadboard shows the Xtal Breakout in use with a ATMega328 together with my BB-Price utility board and a USB-Micro breakout to power it all.

The Xtal-Breakout will come to you pre-soldered ready to be used.

Please add a note to the order telling me your desired frequency - 12MHz, 16MHz or 20MHz.

If you don't tell me what you want you'll receive a 16 MHz which is the most common frequency.
