Centered around ATmega328P microcontroller running at 16MHz
CH340G USB to Serial chipset, not susceptible to "FTDIgate"
Bidirectional level shifters for ISP pins, works for target voltages from two diode drops (1.5V) up to before 2N7002's get fried (60V).
Both USB-side and target-side fused at 500mA.
Firmware 1.0 is a modified ArduinoISP sketch that works a lot faster, with Optiboot bootloader
Onboard AT24C512 EEPROM chip and hardware button for Press-to-Program feature in a future firmware update.
DFU jumper allowing the firmware to be updated from Arduino IDE just like a normal Arduino.

Story of Creation

Recently Atmel released Atmel Studio 7, which came with a new version of ASF and AVRISP mkII firmware. However the new firmware breaks avrdude. Now I no longer have the ISP for my AVRs that works with Arduino IDE any more and I rolled this.

For a brief time I had a PIC phase. The Press-to-Program feature of PICkit is very nice when I am doing bulk programming. Since I am rolling my own AVR ISP I might as well add this feature as well. Currently the hardware required for this feature is installed but the software still do not support it yet.

The first version of its firmware is a slightly modified ArduinoISP sketch. I am going to create a new version once I got time, and properly implement STK500v2 protocol as well as the Press-to-Program candy.
