What is it?

This board will be shipped to you in the case required to be a simple "drop-in" or swap replacement for your Lenovo Thinkpad X240 X250 X260 and for that matter any laptop that uses the same connector(http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Power_Connector). You will need to disassemble the laptop but the good part is that you will only need to replace this module instead of soldering wires.

Why did you make it?

I made this board because I have fallen in love with the Type-C connector and the Power Delivery protocol but also because my video on the X230 type-c connector got a lot of requests for this type of connector too. Many things can be said in the support of this statement but long story short, I just love to travel with maximum 2 cables and 1 or 2 power bricks depending on the number of devices I carrry; bonus fact, I can charge my laptop from the same power bank(45w PD enabled) that charges my phone. Another driving reason to design this module was my youtube audience that wanted a way to use PD on their Lenovo laptops but without the need to solder and use hot glue( as I did in my first mod).

What makes it special?

This module is designed and tested by myself and I have tested it in quite harsh conditions. I am doing the assembly by hand, inspect every board under the microscope, test every single board before inserting it in the case and test again once it is in the case. It is an easy replacement and a nice way to upgrade your beloved Lenovo Thinkpad X240 X250 X260 and others that use the same connector and need max 100W to today's connectivity for charging plus it helps you reduce the amount of chargers and cables that you have to carry in your backpack or for a trip.

IMPORTANT DETAILS

We have a 45W, 65W and a 90W version. Please pay attention what you order because normally your laptop identifies the charger by an ID pin. That is no longer possible using the PD charging and I have built 3 versions of this board so you can buy the version you need . Once you buy the adapter from me, you will have to buy a PD charger/brick from a store , the brick output power should match at minimum the adapter's rating. If you buy a 45w module from me than you need at least a 45W PD charger with 20V and 2.25Amp output. For a 65W module from me you need at least a 65W PD charger with 20V and 3.25Amp output. If you buy a 90W module from me than you need at least a 90W PD charger with 20V and 4.5Amp output. If you will use a smaller output power brick than the power of the module, depending on the quality of your brick, you will notice : - Slower or NO charge - Brick over heating - Laptop unable to charge at all If you need to use a lower power brick, I recommend to charge your battery with the laptop turned off/in stanbdy at least until it gets 50% battery.

What you get when you buy this kit :

Fully assembled(including plastic case) and tested module .
Wires length 12cm, total module length 14.5 cm
All the cases are 3D printed using FDM technology. Slight layer lines can be noticed but they will fit and work without any problem. Black cases only are SLA printed . No layer lines can be seen and they will fit perfectly no matter what.

Shipping info :

For all the orders placed until Sunday 17:00 on GMT+8 , the shipping will be next Wednesday. This means I ship only once a week as I can not make the products one by one but rather I make them in batches. Sometimes there will be delays as if a product does not work properly I will not ship it and I will make a new one for the customer. In this case, I will ship Thursday or Friday. Please ask me if you have any questions.

How long will the shipping take?

Now I am shipping form the UK and Royal Mail takes a while sadly since January 2023 when they had a cyber incident. It takes anywhere between 2 weeks to 8 weeks for a package to get to the USA for example and 2 weeks to 6 weeks to get a package to some areas in Belgium. I am here to help if the package gets lost but please understand that it take time and I can't control the shipping times. THank you !

Works perfectly. Easy to install

I had a quick read of the guide on github, and installed it in a few minutes while sitting on the couch.
So far it seems to be working perfectly and means I have one less brick sitting on my desk.

So far the max I've pulled from the USB C port is 50w, but the battery was at 75%. I'll wait for it to drain more and see if I can pull the full 65w (100w charger)

Great Service and Communication

I had a T440p and i made my order only to realize that i made a mistake and ordered the wrong version, I contacted the seller and the issue was sorted swiftly without issue. I received the correct cable and connected it all up and its has been great.

I had some questions which was answered quickly as well. Top seller in my eyes and if i get another Thinkpad that requires a USB-C mod i know where to come.

High quality cable with easy drop in installation

I am very happy with this product. My only criticism (and I would like to reiterate, is very minor) is the cable was a little too long so I had to really wedge it in. It could not sit in existing cable channels within the laptop. However, with a bit of force, it is now sitting nicely in there and working perfectly. I have an X260, so maybe I ended up with a cable designed for a larger laptop. Either way, I'm glad to have USB C charging on this laptop now, thanks to this product.

Thank you for the review Jordan ! Yes the cable length is a bit more than needed to allow some slack. As I make all these by hand I am always worried that I might cut a bit too short the wires so I leave some slack as I know it can be tucked in and better have some slack than be short of a few mm. Exactly What The (Computer) Doctor Ordered!

Literally a drop in replacement, and saves you from having to carry around multiple chargers for your phone and your laptop! I've used the usbc to slim adapters (both the corded ones, and the female to male adapters) and the internal solution is the best solution!

A great mod upgrade

So far this works great, it charges my laptop as it should but it What seemed the cable was abit longer but nothing A little wiggle room wouldn't fix. Aside from that it works and charges with my anker 45w charger and cable😁

Great upgrade for Thinkpad X240.

My trusted X240 was the only remaining notebook without USB-C charging capability in my household. With my new USB-C charging port I can charge it with the same AC adapters as my other devices. Installation was no problem thanks to Lenovo's high repairability and Mike's perfectly fitting charging port and cable.

Great product quality and the personalized message in the package made me even happier!

Works well, easy to install

The module fits precisely in place of the original one, works perfectly as it should. The cable is a bit wider than the original, so I had to creatively lay the cable to avoid sharp bends, but other than that the installation was very easy to do.

Easy and awesome!

Great documentation, with the instructions it was no more than a 5 minute install. Module seems to be great quality and fits perfectly in the housing. As some others have noted the wire length is slightly long for the X250 but no harm done, everything still sat fine and the case closed with no problems. Looking forward to travelling with one fewer charger, especially once I order a matching module for my X260 :) Loved the attention to detail in packaging too, this is clearly the product of a craftsman who cares about their work and customers. Easy install, working well

Install of the new black 45W module was very simple and works well. I have tested it on a few different types of usbc charges and it doesn't seem to have any issues. The module is slightly too long for the X250 so I used the included tape to make a slight S-bend in the cable without any problems.

Note to Canadian customers: Canada Post listed the module as "Delivered" about a week before the product actually arrived at my house, so you may have to wait a bit if that happens to you. Mike was able to help me out and directed me to the right places to ask questions.

Exactly as advertised.

The length of the modded cable was the exact length as the stock one, so installation was very easy. Expect shipping to be kinda funny because of Covid so if you're planning on getting it get it now. I have no regrets. Very good product :)

Excellent experience buying on Tindie

Bought this to adapt my x260 from slim-tip to USB C charging. Postage was swift, it arrived a week after I ordered, which was amazing considering it was coming from Taiwan! It was well packaged with a little thank you note from Mike, which was a nice touch. This thing was as plug and play as it could be considering it requires the dismantling of a laptop to do it. [Thinkpad x250] Highly recommended in every way!

I upgraded my x250 with this charging port, it fits perfectly and sits firmly in the chassis.
Charging speed is on par with the original port, no issues whatsoever.
The quality of the charging port easily holds up with large sellers. The contact is very friendly and professional.

Quick and easy way to add type-c charging

Great mod for my x260. Took a couple of minutes to install and only needed a screwdriver. Also bought a magnetic adaptor for type-c plugs so I now have a "magsafe" connector for my laptop. Well worth the money vs how long it would have taken me to DIY and source all the parts.

Smooth, fast and easy. Highly recommended!

The laptop is charging fast with no problems, I’ve tested it with three MacBook chargers (28w and 86W) and a Dell charger 65W. As I ordered the 65W chip, my laptop is reading 65W regardless of what charger I am using.
I am very impressed by the customer service and the quality of work. I strongly recommend for anyone who has similar needs. It was smooth, fast and easy. I don’t normally write reviews but this time I would like to support this small business for the great service provided.

X260 Type-C charging port works like a charm

Very happy and satisfied with my purchase. I've been using Thinkpads since X220 days, and a big fan.
I was looking for a solution to reduce the number of chargers I needed to keep. Then I found this site.

At present I own a T440P (modded), T450 (maxed-out), X260 (modded) and T580 (issued by company).
I got the red color and lines aren't really noticeable. Build quality is good and the cable length is just right
with maybe 20cm slack(?). The cable from port to the motherboard connector is a bit thick making it tricky to route
and hide at the side of the CPU fan, and so that it won't cause bulging when the bottom lid is closed. Just a minor
thing. Everyting fits well in the port-compartment and no issues when I screwed the metal-bracket back in place.

Overall 5-stars for this. I just wish the T440P/T450 model will be available soon so I can purchase 2-sets. =)

Yes there is a slack in the cable of about 2 cm and I am sorry for it but I have preffered to leave a bit of slack just in case :-D. Now I have more flexible wires and also I can tailor them easier to the size.
If you want the T440P and T450 cables, message me and I can get them done for you :-) . I don't have a tT40p to measure the size of the cable precisely but if you give me the size, I will adjust the wires accordingly. For T450 I have an original connector so I can use that one to measure.
