This project was originally created by Karman at: http://karman.cc/blog/archives/746. I duplicated his original design and liked it so much that after a bit of back and fourth decided to design a custom board. His original design using the 0.96" oled display is why i'm still using it today. In order to create a design as compact as possible the GPS module is under the display. This not the ideal location but on first power up outside I was able to get satellite fixes in about a minute.
There are many different board revisions of this project. Each one an improvement over the previous. The FTDI and power supply components have been re worked many times resulting in easier assembly and more reliable solder joints. This design has: Atmega328P at 3.3V/8Mhz FT230XS-R USB interface MTK3339 GPS module (Adafruit Ultimate GPS) 9V Battery Powered LP2985-33DBVR LDO Power Supply TMP75 temperature micro USB connector two pushbutton switches i2c 0.96" 128x64 White OLED display
Video of a previous design with display on the opposite side of the board can be seen at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKC5QPpWtfU
