LazerStorm are simple wooden plates that you can add to robots. Essentially they are peppered with 6mm holes at 10mm intervals, which a Lego nerd could tell you is the same hole spacing as Technic beams, featured in the Lego Mindstorms sets. Lego-compatible building sets like Makeblock and Tetrix also feature the same hole spacing, and LazerStorm plates are compatible with these sets as well.

LazerStorm plates are laser (excuse me) lazer-cut out of beautiful 1/4” (5mm) Baltic Birch, a wood commonly used in DIY projects. They can be bolted onto a robot’s beams using screws—this makes for a very solid assembly! You can also use zip ties to secure the plate to the robot’s chassis. Another option is to use the system’s own connectors. For instance, a few 3M axles from the Lego Mindstorms set can be used to secure the plate.

Their blank wooden forms are crying out for you to paint, drill, mod, hack, and otherwise gloriously destroy in the name of science. Take a saw to your LazerStorm plates. Glue them together in a weird way. Get your kid to scrawl on them with crayons. LazerStorm has no ego—is merely the beginning of a cool solution that springs Athena-like from your head.
