Read More…The Kumquat is a versatile and cost-effective embedded system powered by the Allwinner V3s SoC, featuring an ARM Cortex-A7 processor. It offers robust connectivity options, including Ethernet, USB-C, isolated CAN-FD, and WiFi/Bluetooth via ESP32. With 8 auto-detecting 12/24V IOs, 4 relays, and extensive I/O capabilities, it’s ideal for industrial, IoT, and embedded applications. Supporting multiple programming languages like C, C++, and Python3, and running on Buildroot Linux with a Mainline Kernel, the Kumquat combines powerful features and flexible design at an affordable price, making it the perfect choice for developers seeking an alternative to traditional PLCs.
I needed an alternative to traditional PLCs that could run Embedded Linux, offered built-in bus interfaces, and was more cost-effective than other Embedded Linux controllers.
Unlike traditional Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), which are typically designed for specific industrial automation tasks with limited flexibility, the Kumquat offers a more adaptable and powerful solution. It features a ARM Cortex-A7 processor, providing significantly more power efficiency. While traditional PLCs often rely on proprietary programming languages, the Kumquat supports multiple popular programming languages such as C, C++, and Python3, giving developers a versatile environment.
In terms of connectivity, the Kumquat surpasses most PLCs by offering extensive options, including Ethernet, USB-C, isolated CAN-FD, and WiFi/Bluetooth through the ESP32 module. Its storage capabilities are also more advanced, with 8MB SPI Flash, SDIO for eMMC or SD-Card, and I2C EEPROM. Additionally, the Kumquat boasts 8 auto-detecting 12/24V IOs and 4 relays, providing robust and flexible I/O options for various applications. Enhanced features like a Real-Time Clock (RTC) with battery backup make the Kumquat suitable for a wider range of applications beyond industrial automation, including IoT and embedded systems.
