Numi is a ESP8266 WiFi clock with 4x Apollo DA2010 numitrons and a little incadescent bulb as a colon. Just like my nixie clocks, it's very low profile (only 9mm base height!). It keeps up time via NTP instead of RTC so there are no buttons, instead all configuration is done via mobile friendly web UI (see images).

The clock has options for brightness setting, timezone setting with summer time and some other useful stuff – for example can be turned on and off remotely via GET requests.

I wanted a little challenge with this project which si two-fold here. I used a specialized LED driver to drive the numitrons - Awinic AW21036. This chip is very capable, has programmable pwm frequency, current limiting, phase shift and other capabilities which was fun to play with. Another thing I did is adding Cypress CYPD3177 chip for USB-PD negotiation to request 9-12V from a USB-C charger.

I made two of these clocks, one for sale, the other one stays with me ;)

Quite a bit of time went into designing this so by buying this, you also support future projects like this. That said you can always head over to projects github and make your own, everything required is there :)

The case is prited from Galaxy Black PLA. But you can easily disassemble it and make some wooden/metal enclosure for it (pcb has screw holes). Or print a different color cover, you will find the 3d models on project’s github page.

Hardware

• ESP8266 powered
• 4x DA2010 numitron

• Average power consumption is around 180mA @ 12V, 250mA @ 9V, 500mA @ 5V. Recommended quality USB-PD charger or 2A USB charger.
• 3d printed case (volcano black PLA but you can print your own, link to thingiverse on github)
• USB-C connector for power and debugging / flashing.
• Screwless „snap-on“ design, can be easily disassembled
• I've made only 2 of these in total so there is a sense of uniqueness :)

Software

• Simple configuration web portal to set WIFI credentials and everything else
• Timezone settings including Daylight Saving time (optional)
• Brightness settings + night mode
• OTA update support

IMPORTANT: Please note that the numitrons were hand-made back in the day, they can differ a bit in shape, numbers are not perfectly aligned etc, so make sure to check the images before you buy!
