Read More…Overview
The RaSCSI was originally designed and developed by GIMONS in Japan for the X68000 computer. It is an emulator that simultaneously emulates several retro SASI & SCSI devices (hard disk, MO, CD-ROM).
The RaSCSI is designed as a RaspberryPi 'Hat' running under Linux and when combined with the requisite RaSCSI software is able to emulate retro SASI & SCSI devices, provide ethernet, mount remote drives and also act as a SCSI initiator or controller (when you need to dump or restore directly to/from a SASI/SCSI device).
The RaSCSI presents a SCSI-II connector to which, via a cable or adapter, connects with any of the X68000 computer range to act as the primary boot disk(s) and is also able to work with other SCSI/SASI hosts, for example, FM Towns, MZ-2500/MZ-2800 (tested and verified) etc.
The hat can be supplied as a kit of parts or assembled and tested. Optionally it can be supplied with a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B and SD card image.
I only have 10 of these units and no more will be available once sold, Gimons has also stopped making the units as the design has now been made into an open source project found here https://github.com/PiSCSI/piscsi which generally targets the Mac/Amiga machines.
NB. SCSI-II to SCSI-I/SCSI-II/DB25 cables are plentiful on Ebay and is not included.
