DRM-114 is a serial SAO that provides "IRC" like optical "secure" networking. Both public and private messages can be sent optically to other DRM-114 units. Each message is encrypted with a unique key that is transmitted along with the message in a protected manner. All of the source code is open except for the key protection mechanism. That mechanism is closed-source and is an "effective means of access control" under the DMCA, which means that the security of DRM-114 is protected by U.S. Federal Law.

DRM-114 is going to be an SAO for DEFCON 27. It's a cool communications gizmo and also a protest piece against section 1201 of the DMCA.
