Arduino makers: Running out of IO pins ? Need more memory for your latest project ?

Hardware

This boards are targeted at makers with some experience who need an AVR Arduino-compatible board for larger or more complex projects. Ideal for both breadboard development and deployment in small spaces.

Available in a tiny 50x30mm form-factor with either the ATMEGA644 or 1284 microcontroller, these boards break out all 32 IO pins as well as power, a reset button and two LEDs. Dual voltage regulators mean you can run the MCU at 5V or 3.3V, and provide power to external modules and components. The two rows of pins are 1 inch (25.4mm) apart making it easy to use on a breadboard.

Compared to the ATMEGA328P microcontroller in the Uno, Nano and Mini, the 644 offers 64KB Flash and 4KB SRAM, while the 1284 has 128KB Flash and 16KB SRAM. Both have a full four IO ports of eight pins each, two UARTS and three hardware interrupts, as well as the usual I2C and SPI controllers.

You will need a USB/Serial adapter cable to connect the board to your PC, or take a look at my Nano-sized board with onboard USB.

Software

The board is supported by the awesome MightyCore by MCUdude (see Github link below). Just add one line of text to your Arduino preferences dialog and you're ready to go: it works just like any other Arduino or clone board. (For an Uno-sized dev board, check out MCUdude's store here on Tindie).

Boards are supplied fully-assembled and tested by me, with the Optiboot bootloader and blink sketch already installed.

Options

The base price covers the 644 MCU but you can swap this for the 1284 for a small extra charge. The default crystal frequency is 16MHz with options for 8MHz, 20MHz or 12MHz.

I don't include headers by default (flatter package = lower postage) but they are available as an option to covered the higher postage.
