What is it?

This is a dual regulator PCB. It has a 5V 1A output and a 3V 50mA output. It was designed to run off a 9V battery but will run of and input voltage of 5.5V to 16V. This makes it very useful to run off a automobile battery.

Why did you make it?

We designed this to run a microcontroller on the 3V while powering a string of high power LED's on the 5V as well as operating a servo motor. This prevented the drop in voltage we were seeing when using a boost controller and a 1.5V battery.

What makes it special?

This is a very robust design. Not only does it do a great job of regulating the power, but it has a very low dropout voltage and can handle currents well above what normally is needed, meaning it is not breaking a sweat most of the time.

We also added lots of features useful for product development, like the ability to turn on and off indicator LED's. So you can easily see when the circuit is on but can remove them when you want to save power or make a current measurement. It has test points for easy measurement. There are sense resistors to measure the current, but jumpers to remove the resistance during normal operation.
