What is it?

Ever wanted to power a project from a USB power bank, only to have it keep shutting itself off because the current draw was too low? This handy USB module uses a pulsed constant current sink to keep the power bank alive while maximizing battery life!

The smarts of this device is an ATtiny10 which controls the on and off cycling of the constant current sink, since power banks don't normally need a continuous current to stay on. This pulsing technique drastically improves the battery life of the power bank, perfect for powering a small project for a few weeks. The current is adjustable via a small trim potentiometer from 5mA to 150mA and the supply voltage can be anywhere from 1.8V to 5.5V.

Why did I make it?

Because it's hella annoying when your USB power bank doesn't want to stay on!

What makes it special?

Uses an adjustable constant current sink (5mA - 150mA).
Pulses the current to improve battery life. On-time is fixed at 3 seconds and the off-time is adjustable between 1 second and 22 seconds.
Compact with no chunky components.

WARNING: Do not connect the keep-alive module between a QuickCharge/Power-Delivery compatible power source and a QC/PD device, as up to 20V could be present on the power lines which will destroy the module.

Properly named

It saved my project!
After hours of trying to tweak the parameters of my Pi's power management hat without success, I found a solution for avoiding my power bank to go into sleep mode.
Super easy to use, just plugged it between my power bank and my Pi with the power management hat and it keeps the power available to the Pi anytime it is needed.

Very clever little unit

Works excactly as expected. Easy to adjust with the onboard potentiometer. For outdoor use (I mainly need the powerbank for some accessories of my astronomical telescope) I will probably put a piece of heat shrink tube around it.
