GREAT starter kit.

I use this kit as a starter kit to teach 4th grade students through 8th grade how to solder. It is a great beginner kit. After doing this kit I move the students to a little more complex kit. This kit gets students who have never solder before the opportunity to learn, have fun, and complete something they can take with them. It also introduces some basic concept of electricity such as polarity.

Excellent Solder Badges

These badges are perfect to use as an introduction to soldering with elementary-aged students. We use them to teach 5th graders how to solder before they use the skills to build a remote control box for their ROVs. The cost is reasonable, and buying in bulk gives you a discount. The items are always shipped quickly and I have never had a defective piece. We've been using these for several years now, and highly recommend them.

Great beginning Solder project!

This is a quick and easy project for beginners and those that have NEVER soldered before. It's hard to mess up and it's only 5 solder points. We use this to teach small kids (6, 7, 8 year olds) how to solder. It's a great beginning solder project! Highly recommend.

These are wonderful kits that make teaching soldering fun!

I've used these kits for 2 years now and they're perfect. The only thing I wish is that there was a printable set of instructions, though I have created my own. The video is super helpful, but not for at-the-table assistance and reminders. Wonderful product, wonderful price!

I can solder badge

This was a very nice project, we used it at a girl scout makerfair. It took around 15 minutes for a novice to complete and we had mostly 10-12 year olds completing the badge and they loved it.

Great and inexpensive learn to solder badge!

Awesome kit, stellar price

We are a public library that bought these kits to use for public soldering classes. We couldn't believe the amazing price and they look great when soldered up. The color-changing LED is even nicer than some others I've seen- it cycles at multiple speeds, fades, and does intermediate colors as well as R/G/B- folks are very impressed. Being able to attach the pin post with solder is a nice touch too. Highly recommended.

Perfect

Just received! They look awesome!

We've been teaching teens how to solder for a few months now. It's challenging to find supplies of simple kits online, and the market is dominated by two big companies. So when we went to restock, the prices were quite a lot higher, because you could no longer buy big lots, but had to buy the smaller unit price.

We found this item by doing a more detailed search. We were happy to support someone who seems not to be in it to make a big buck out of teaching kids a useful skill. As a public library we don't charge our kids for the kits, so these kits will help many more kids learn! And they are really nicely designed!

I hope to follow up with feedback on performance once we use the kits. Probably won't be until fall. Thank you!

A bit hit!

We ordered 160 of these for our Remake Learning Days event. We had over 100 students and individuals attend our event and these little badges were a big hit. Everyone could not wait to make their own badge. Communication with Robert was quick. I messaged the seller before we purchased the badges due to there not being enough available online for our event. Robert restocked the online ordering and we were set.

Great Product. They all worked,

made it from Ireland to the US in under 5 days. We used them for learn to solder workshops. The multicolor LEDs were showing up on T-shirts all day around the event.
The owner answered my questions (about inventory and shipping schedule) very quickly despite the time difference.
This is a very reasonably priced product - esp when you are ordering in bulk (we ordered 175 and had them here in 5 days).
No documentarian comes with it, but can easily be found on the internet on his site.

Great teaching tool.

I go to a yearly exhibit to interest High School students in the trade occupations, This badge generates considerable interest in a delicate hand skill. It teaches young students that there are marketable trades skills that they are able to preform.

I wish the maker of these badges would keep more of these in stock.

Awesome Teaching Tool

A Google search to find a cost effective way to teach 5th and 6th-grade students how to solder brought me to theTindie website. The "I Can Solder" pins are less expensive than those featured in the United States. The pins were initially out of stock but the website was equipped with a form that would advise the reader when they were back in stock. Not too long after I filled out the form I did receive an email that the pins were back in stock. The more you bought, the cheaper the pin. I was concerned about the shipping cost since the items came all the way from Ireland but it was still less expensive than the US equivalent.
My school was hosting a family MakerNight and it would have been ideal to have the pins for the event. I had no hope of receiving them in time, but, alas, the first batch arrived that very day. The website video gave a stellar demo and many students were able to experience the magic of soldering and walk away with a light-up "I can solder" pin. They were a highlight of the evening!

Excellent Product, Excellent Vendor

I ordered these just about a week ago as a gift for my coworkers. I work in IT, and try every year to buy a small, inexpensive gift for a large group of people I work with - this year I bought 30 of this kit.

Seller packed and shipped order within hours of my purchase, and I received them within a week (from Ireland to the States - wow!).

Kits are well packed, simple enough to put together, and we're having fun with them. One suggestion, might be worth printing the Youtube URL or a QR code to it on the bag that the kit comes in, I printed a QR code in the Christmas card that I wrapped them in. Not a criticism, but might make it a bit easier if given as a gift.

Excellent vendor, well made inexpensive product - well done!

We had 9 Kids Pre booked and they loved the fact that THEY MADE it and it worked first time . (See Link above)
Documentation is a bit limited for a teaching session but if you have soldered before you can create your own documentation as I did ;-)

Tried to "make" a switch by putting laminated sheet in between the battery and the board - Failed miserably either the laminate folded or it was too thick , Just means to turn it off you need to remove the battery .

Great Fun Award!

I found this product while looking for a merit badge of some sort. We had 3 learn to solder for a specific task. They were really proud they learned, so finding this Solder Badge was beyond FUN! I bought 3 and we had an official Solder Certification at work. We had the 3 assemble their badges and had a blast doing it. All in all, these are the GREAT fun gadgets.
Because I work with Engineers, they took this badge one step further and hooked it up to a battery source. That LED should blink for a year now. Haha... Thanks for SUPER QUICK shipping! Thanks for giving a small company an afternoon of fun while we celebrated Soldering.

Teaching Kids to Solder

I bought these badges as a way to teach my students (and myself) how to solder. We are running a new STEM program at my school, and this was a great introduction to soldering! I love the badges. The kids watched intently as we made some by example. The video exemplar provided all we needed to make our badges and make them well. I have begun a new skill, as have my students. This kit is a great starting point for kids!

This kit is great- I through it together with my 3yr old daughter in about 15 minutes (including the soldering iron warm-up time and explaining safety/ what's going on) and she loved it! Everything fits/ works perfectly.

But... As a few others have mentioned, it lacks an on/off switch. The battery isn't the easiest to get out (which is good since you don't want it slipping out on it's own), but you can do that to turn it off. On the other hand, the battery type it uses is about $0.10/ each on ebay, so it's no biggie to order more.

I'd whole-heartedly recommend this to anyone trying to get their kids into electronics. Review Image

Beautifully designed, affordable, but rotten packaging

Beautiful fun product, well designed, a shame it arrived in sub-standard packaging. Ordered 3 units, they arrived wrapped in very thin bubble wrap in a regular paper envelope. Components pierced bubble wrap, tore through invoice, and pierced outer envelope. LED leads were twisted, button backing smashed beyond usability, a little bit of wear & tear to the i can solder front facing surface. I don't suspect the button backs are serviceable.

Components need to be shipped in such a way that they can survive the rigors of being mailed internationally. (I'm in the USA.) Review Image

Sorry my attempt to keep the shipping costs low backfired for you. Your photo shows the components were very badly mangled and crushed. I have larger padded envelopes (still paper and bubble wrap) and I will now use them for all my shipping. Hopefully the larger padded envelopes are treated better by the postal system.

Brilliant Little Kit

Fantastic, simple and easy to use, gives the student something to go away with that they have made. shows the joy of making. personally i would like to see it have a switch on it, i know you can take the battery out, but that risks losing it :-/

Thanks for your review. At soldering events we suggest to parents to keep the re-sealable bags to store the badge and battery. I've also list a new I Can Solder Torch kit which includes a switch.

My scouts loved them

I bought a handful to give my 11-year old Boy Scouts an introduction to soldering. They loved it! Easy soldering, hard to mess up, and fun to wear.

HOWEVER, they were shipped in a plain envelope which resulted in some of the butterfly clip/pin pieces getting damaged in transit. A padded envelope would make this a perfect intro-to-soldering purchase.
