No longer stocking 3D printed adapters!

We ran out of stock on July 19, and I don't plan to print any more. Tindie guarantees all purchases for 30 days. I've never checked dates for refunds or replacements, but I do want to put an end date on this, so I won't be offering refunds or replacements 3D prints after August 31, 2022. That is a few days more than six weeks.

We have tons of o-rings left, so if you want to 3D print your own adapter or have one printed for you elsewhere, you can get a set of o-rings here. They are the correct size, and you can avoid buying assortments or huge bags of o-rings.

What is it?

These are the o-rings for the 3D printed SodaStream Terra adapter designed by my friend Alex Courville to connect old Sodastream CO2 tanks or the Sodastream bulk CO2 fitting to the latest style Sodastream machines.

Why did you make it?

It is hard to buy just a couple of o-rings. Amazon has assortments, but we have noticed that either the measurements on the labels aren't always correct or there are two ways to measure o-rings.

We have quite a collection of nitrile o-rings, and they are the correct size for the 3D printed SodaStream quickconnect adapter.

Is a 3D printed adapter the right solution?

Someone else has a metal bulk CO2 adapter that is most definitely a better solution. The metal adapter won't work if you want to use old-style SodaStream tanks in your SodaStream Terra. It is meant to help you connect a bulk CO2 system to your Terra.

So who might still want to use Alex's original 3D printed plastic adapter? If you're worried about taking a wrench to a SodaStream Terra CO2 tank to harvest the brass fitting, then maybe the 3D printed adapter is for you.

Shattered as soon as I pressurized the line

Adapter arrived on time and was packed well. I inserted the O-ring, attached the adapter to the co2 line, attached it to the sodastream, and turned the tank on. POP

Maybe plastic isn't a great idea after all. Went out to target and grabbed an old Fizzi unit - used the metal adapter that came with the line I bought on amazon. Works great, lesson learned

I am sorry to hear that the adapter adapter didn't work for you Devin!

The adapter shouldn't be under pressure when you open the valve on your tank. From your description, it sounds like you skipped the step where you need to trim the plunger to the correct length for your setup.

None of that is important. When someone's adapter doesn't work, I always offer a refund. Your review doesn't give me enough information to refund the correct person, so if you'd send me a message I will get that taken care of right away!

Nice Idea Goes Pop

This gadget fills a definite need for folks who stumble into owning SodaStream's new Terra model. SodaStream has apparently designed Terra to prevent users from using bulk CO2 sources to refill their tanks. It has a proprietary pressure connector instead of the old style threaded model.

So, this adapter, which screws onto the old style tank, makes it work with Terra. It's a clever idea, and well executed. Unfortunately, even though it's made as strongly as possible, the material is just a little weak for the task. I used mine without problem for one full tank. When I put it on the second tank, it seemed to connect fine, but the first time I tried to use it there was a "pop" followed by the sound of CO2 leaking. When I took the cover off the tank compartment I found the adapter had burst into a bunch of little pieces. No damage to the SodaStream unit or anything else, other than the adapter.

By the way, the metal adapter mentioned in the product description is NOT the same thing as this. It's a quick-release adapter used at the end of a hose to directly connect bulk tanks. It doesn't fit Terra. And it's out of stock anyway. :-)

This is a fantastic and plenty accurate review, Doug, but you should most definitely get in touch with me with your full name or order number so I can issue you a refund!

I'm not just selling adapter-shaped pieces of plastic that might work. They are supposed to work. They've worked for us, and they seem to work for the majority of people. Sometimes they break. More often they leak. I suspect there are SodaStreams with a looser manufacturing tolerance than the one Alex designed against, but I don't know that we'll ever be able to verify that!

At the end of the day, though, they are just 3D printed PLA+ plastic that has to fit in the space we were given. Since taking over the job of printing these, I've been making every tweak I can think of to make these adapters as solid as possible: as many walls as possible, as much heat as I can get away with (to help layer adhesion), and I've pushed the extrusion multiplier as high as I can (to make sure the walls are packed as tight as can be!).

I'm pretty sure we're very, very close to the limit of the material and printing process now, and we probably have been for more than a month now. Probably two, but I didn't keep great track of that. Sorry!

And you are correct, Doug. The "metal adapter" is different, and I just expanded on that a bit in the description. Nobody tells me what they're using the adapters for, so I have no idea why I always assume the majority of folks are using it with bulk CO2 setups.

Bad design

I also bought one and I am having the same issues it won't thread properly on the hose and it leaks. As you start to thread it will thread crooked and it won't seat to stop the leaking. The plastic is not strong enough to support the steel coupling from the hose ,and the unite split open on the top thread .

Darrell, I am sorry to hear that things didn't work out for you. It sounds like you managed to crossthread your adapter. This has happened to a couple of other folks.

I have tried to crossthread an adapter on purpose. It is challenging to do, but definitely doable. If you do manage to misalign the threads and screw the adapter on anyway, I am certain you can tear out the plastic threads. They're definitely not meant to stand up to that.

We are not just selling pieces of plastic. We are selling pieces of plastic that are supposed to be up to their intended task. If you message me through Tindie, Darrell, I would be more than happy to issue you a full refund. I most definitely don't want anyone paying for parts that aren't working for them!

treading on hose wrong

I bought this and maybe it was a bad one but whatever i do it wont thread properly on hose and leaks looks crooked, i did email to see if i can get a replacement
