It charges during the day via the two high power solar cells on the back into a 40mAh NiMH battery. After sundown, the controller automatically enables the LEDs and they start blinking on their own. The frequency is approx. 1Hz, but they are not synchronized to each other, which gives them a nice firefly effect.
The connector on the bottom is a M3 thread, so it can not only be used with the supplied wooden stick, but any point with a hole to screw it in. The intended position is inside a flower pot (inside&dry!) on the window sill where it charges during the day and lights up the plants during dusk.
The idea of having a bee inside our spring flowers seemed fitting. It combines the maker approach of having electronics anywhere with the beauty of modern PCB production with yellow solder mask and black silk screen.
There is no other bee PCB or PCbee out there. It is aesthetically pleasing and perfectly fits into a lot of use cases.
