What is it?

A 16x24 LED display which is plug and size-compatible with the discontinued Adafruit 555 display. The lit-up area measures 4.5" by 3"; and the board itself is 4.5" by 3.5". The first picture shows a clock consisting of three 16x24 display panels, where the left-most is the new PowerSoft one, while the other two are Adafruit 555s. The second picture shows the Adafruit PCB (green) and the PowerSoft one (black). Improvements are:

• if two cables are used instead of one, then one of the connections that might have been CS1 can be reprogrammed with a solder-bridge to be RD, allowing you to read the memory of the display processor, which was not previously possible.

• the top and bottom edges of the PCB are scored and can be broken off, and there are secondary holes for solderable nuts. Once broken off, the card can be used both horizontally or vertically. I will post a picture with the solderable nuts in place soon!

• If you have noise on the data lines, there is room for capacitors to be added. Normally this is not required, and the pictures do not have these caps.

Why did you make it?

Because Adafruit discontinued the 555 display, and we need it for a product we're making.

What makes it special?

As good as the Adafruit 555, and better!

What's the downside?

Unfortunately I can't meet the price of the previous board. Those LED matrices are hard to find and expensive.
