Features

• Single Pin Control: Control and display numbers using a single GPIO pin, thanks to the integrated MCU which interprets UART input. Traditional 7-segment displays typically require 7 GPIOs to drive. However, with this breakout board, I have combined it with an onboard microcontroller and made modifications so that it can now be controlled using just one GPIO pin through a Serial UART TX connection. This greatly simplifies driving it. To use it, you need to simply connect VIN (it has an onboard 3.3V voltage regulator) and GND, and then connect the TX pin of your microcontroller to the RX pin of the breakout board. You can leverage the standard Arduino Serial library at a baud rate of 9600. To change the number displayed on the 7-Segment Display, simply use serial print lines like Serial.println("8"), and the number will automatically appear on the display.

• Chainable Design Our 7-segment display is uniquely chainable, allowing users to connect multiple units together to create a longer display chain effortlessly by just connecting the TX pin of the current display to the RX pin of the next display on the chain. For instance, if you send Serial.print("123") to a chained display of three units, each unit intelligently displays a single digit in the order they are chained: the first displays "1", the second "2", and the third "3". This feature enables users to create custom-length numerical displays suitable for various applications like digital clocks, counters, and public information displays, all while maintaining a clean and organized setup. To clear the display for the entire chain, simply send Serial.write(0x00);
