This unique board seamlessly integrates with your Raspberry Pi without disrupting its casing or lid. Thanks to the precisely sized rivets on the header contact pins, the board offers a "press-fit" connection to the Raspberry Pi headers. Simply press it onto the RPI headers, and it will form a snug / tight fit with perfect electrical connection with the RPI headers. This design ensures the breakout board can be pushed down beyond the tip of the header pins and sits low, allowing for a perfect fit even when the case lid is on. Experience hassle-free integration and maintain the sleek look of your Raspberry Pi setup with this RTC board.
When integrated with a Raspberry Pi, this device allows the system to consistently track and maintain the correct time, regardless of power interruptions or shutdowns. This guarantees that, even after a shutdown and without an internet connection, the system's internal clock continues to stay precise and current.
This breakout board operates using a single CR2026 coin cell battery. These batteries are widely available and can be easily bought both online and in physical stores. A non-conductive sticker on the battery holder guarantees no interference with the RPI board's electronics. So you can safely push the breakout board all the way to the bottom.
This breakout board form factor is compatible with:
The PCF8523 is a CMOS Real-Time Clock (RTC) and calendar optimized for low power consumption. Data is transferred serially via the I2C-bus with a maximum data rate of 1000 kbit/s. Alarm and timer functions are available with the possibility to generate a wake-up signal on an interrupt pin. An offset register allows fine-tuning of the clock. The PCF8523 has a backup battery switch-over circuit, which detects power failures and automatically switches to the battery supply when a power failure occurs.
