Read More…This item is a used Sony RM-Y129 remote control. The micro controller has been replaced with an atmega328PB. The ISP programming access is present in the front of the remote. Programming is performed using a Pogo pin adapter, included with the purchase while quantities last. If you already own one of these remotes you can purchase just the module and source code here.
Sony remotes are very well built. Everything from the buttons, keypad, and circuit board are excellent quality compared to other remote controls. Pressing any of the buttons is smooth and virtually effortless. The older remote control device codes do not support modern electronics, and therefore they are obsolete. Instead of the remote ending up in a landfill somewhere, now you can re-purpose the remote with a modern powerful, low power 32K micro controller!
Now you can program any codes, protocols, devices into this remote using the included source code. There are no limits. This remote is a 35 button 3 device remote. Its slim and lightweight design allow easy access to all buttons on the keypad. The keypad is very well laid out when compared to other remote controls. Every single remote is tested before shipping to ensure it is working and is sterilized before packaging.
Sample source code (assembly only, no arduino source) is included with the purchase of this remote.
The source code includes six of the most common IR Protocols used today, NEC, NEC2, REC80, SONY12, NECrnc, and DISHIR using 3 carrier frequencies, 38 KHz, 40 KHz and 57 KHz. I will be adding more protocols upon request. The source code is very well commented and simple to modify for your existing equipment. In order to find the commands for your existing remote, you will need to capture each command using an IR decoder available here.
Information needed in order to program this remote:
The IR protocol used. (most modern electronics these days use the NEC protocol).
The IR command or sometimes called OBC (or original button code).
The System or Device code.
You will need an AVR ISP programmer that supports the Atmega328PB (not included).
The Code Set function is not enabled in the new firmware. This means that the remote does not support code entry as the original universal remote did. You will have to edit the command table in the source code and manually enter every command for every button you wish to use.
