I am working on circuit boards for my garden, home, and workshop. I use SBC (e.g. Raspberry Pi) and a multi-drop serial interface to a hardy microcontroller setup. The multi-drop serial is used to bootload but does not have a network footprint. The serial is also used for communication interfacing between the SBC and microcontrollers. High-level control programs run on the SBC, while low-level timing critical operations run on the microcontrollers. All information is on https://github.com/epccs, and https://rpubus.org/.
