The truly universal USB-C dream is finally realized for your Game Boy Advance SP!

(Also compatible with the original Nintendo DS!)

Charge your Game Boy Advance SP with USB-C, using any USB-C cable and charger! If it fits, it'll charge! Finally you can stop carrying around that extra proprietary cable!

My design is based off this existing PCB that only works with USB-A -> USB-C cables. In my opinion, if you're gonna future-proof your Game Boy, you shouldn't remain reliant on Type-A!

My PCB works with USB-C <-> USB-C cables as well, so you can use ANY USB-C cable/charger to charge it! I've also verified it works with USB-A -> USB-C cables, Quick Charge, and USB-PD! That means if your charger or USB battery pack offers 5V/9V/12V/etc., it will recognize the Game Boy can only accept 5V and charge accordingly.

Options

To reduce confusion and simplify filling orders, I've consolidated the options into just one offering which satisfies 70% of orders. I go into a bit more detail here.

I will assemble the components for you before shipping. You only have to desolder the exisiting charging port, then solder 3 points to attach to your Game Boy!

I will include a small 3D printed part to fill in the gap in the case created by the smaller USB-C port. It will friciton-fit snugly, or you can use glue/epoxy to keep it in place. Some post-processing (sanding) might be necessary for the cleanest look.

Compatibility

This design works for the AGS-001 and AGS-101.

This design is compatible with 3.5mm headphone jack mods! That means my PCB will not block the other pins you need from the default charging port pads on the Game Boy's motherboard.

It also works on the original (fat) Nintendo DS, NTR-001. Now your Phat GBA Macro can use USB-C as well!

Amazing mod, pretty simple to imstall

I have wanted to do this mod for ages! I finally did it and it looks so amazing! I'd recommend getting the 3d printed adapter to make it look almost as if it came from the factory this way :)

Works well

I'm a beginner solderer and this was pretty simple, surprised it worked right away. Slipped the bezel in and its so satisfyingly convenient. Bezel did not ship with the product but I contacted the seller and they made up for it and sent on free of charge!

Works perfectly

I got the mod and soldered the 3 points and lo and behold it turns on and it charges. If I could leave a video for the review I would but I wouldn’t be writing a good review if it didn’t work.

Great kit, Easy to install once the board is complete

The kit is fun to stick together. After the kit is done, or if you bought the assembled mod it's pretty easy to solder, two big ass ground pads line up the leg to solder. Have a go.

I didn't read

The part is fantastic. I didn't read the details so I got the un-assembled parts. This is basically not useful to me because I don't solder, and my buddy who does does not do micro-soldering. He can barely attach the assembled part to the board, so assembling the part is a non-starter. Pay attention when you order!
I communicated with the seller and he was very good at responding quickly with very good explanations. Very respectful. I would purchase from him again, and might... in order to get the assembled part.

I'm sorry to hear that your friend wasn't able to assemble the board. It is quite small and tricky unless you have a fine-tip soldering iron. I have had some luck with adding too much solder, then using solder wick to remove until you reach the right amount.

My offer for a refund (except for shipping costs) still stands if you're willing to mail the DIY Kit back to me! You can put it in a normal stamped mail envelope to ship it cheaply. I hope we can get you unblocked and overall happy with this mod! :)

An Excellent Experience

My experience as a buyer was nothing short of great.

After ordering the mod, I received an empty envelope that was likely opened at some stage of shipment. After contacting the seller, I was quickly sent out a replacement part.

I've sadly had to abandon the cheap First-Class Mail shipping option, due to several of these shipments arriving damage and missing parts, like yours. At least this means all new orders will cost a bit more to ship, but should arrive safely on the first try!
