What is it?

This is a LED/diode test instrument. It provides a constant test current and reads out the diode forward voltage. Use it to easily determine LED polarity, forward voltage, and brightness at various test currents. Portable, battery powered with integrated battery.

Ships with red film lens for better display as shown in the first two pictures.

Why did you make it?

Multimeter and "Transistor Tester" type test instruments lack all the features the LED tester has.

What makes it special?

Works with these LEDs and diodes:

• Conventional LEDs, including IR and UV.
• Bi-directional LEDs. Reads out the forward voltage of both LEDs.
• Schottky, silicon, germanium diodes
• Zener diodes up to 4V

Test LED brightness or diode forward voltage at these test currents:

• 0.1mA
• 1mA
• 2.5mA
• 5mA
• 10mA
• 15mA
• 20mA
• 25mA
• 30mA
• 40mA

Three ways to test parts:

• Breadboard style socket for leaded parts
• Pads for SMT parts
• Banana jacks for test leads (test leads not included)

Operation

• Unpacking: Remove the pink shipping cover from the power button.
• Press the power button to toggle power on/off. After 5 minutes of inactivity the device will automatically power off.
• The display will show dashes and the polarity indicators will flash when there's no LED or diode present.
• Rotate the dial to select the desired test current.
• Connect a test LED or diode to the breadboard sockets, SMT pads, or test leads.
• The display will show the forward voltage. For bi-color LEDs (bi-directional diodes) the display will alternate.
• The illuminated polarity LED indicates the anode (positive) lead of the LED or diode.
