What is it?

This is a badge holder for the card ID-1 made with 3 PCB attached together with 4 rivets. In the v3 the front and the back are different PCB, while the middle one is smaller with 2 teeth that block the badge inside. This badge holder is compatible with the card called ID-1, the common credit card size, with the dimension of 85.60 × 53.98 mm and thickness of 0.76 mm

The dimension are: 112 x 78mm

Why did you make it?

In the company where i work, we have a personal badge that we have to keep visible and we use it to open the office doors, like in most of the other companies.

After breaking my badge holder, i came up with the idea of make a badge holder with PCBs and also with a good looking graphics!

Description:

In the first version the PCBs are glued, in this new version the PCB are soldered! All the 3 pcb are 1mm thick. The middle one has also two teeth that can bend during the card insertion and make the badge stable inside. In the new version is possible to use the badge holder in vertical or horizontal way. In the previous version there was a trace loop around the badge window and it was a problem for the RFID reader. In the version 3 i have removed it making the badge more readable.

Awesome

Way better than my old plastic badge holder: stronger, thinner, prettier!

Work like a charm on all doors I used it (I think my badge even work better than before, I do not need to touch the receiver and wait for at least 2s, just passing my badge a few centimetres over the receiver is enough ; maybe a good side effect of PCB tracks?)

It's so good that I ordered another one for me for my second badge, and 2 more for jealous workmate. I received them today.
Delivery was quicker than I thought for standard shipping to another country (maybe because I'm in France, near the Italian border). I passed both of my order on Sunday, packages were sent on Monday, and I received it on the next Monday.

Beautiful product & ingenious idea, but has one small issue

I'm continuously amazed by how cool this looks. It's so much better than my boring old plastic badge holder. The only problem is that it blocks my badge's RFID access in one particular door in my office building. I don't know if its the fake antenna on the PCB or just the copper that throws it off, but I need to remove my badge to get into that door. Even with this slight annoyance, I'm still rocking this badge holder.

Probably it's the inner border that make a loop... i will fix it in the next release!

Super cool product!

This badge holder is awesome! As a PCB Designer, I'm sure it will be the envy of the other designers at work, and even people who aren't in our department :) I could have designed this myself, but Duppa did an excellent job already, so why redesign the wheel? Plus, he sent it already assembled (all 3 layers arrived glued together) so all I had to do was put my badge inside. Great product!
