It allows to disconnect the VBUS line for 3D printers connected through USB to PCs and Raspberry Pis running OctoPrint to avoid undervoltage and related issues. https://community.octoprint.org/t/put-tape-on-the-5v-pin-why-and-how/13574
It allows to switch off or hard reset a 3D printer while still connected through USB.
It allows to simulate the effects of resistance and reactance of long USB wires without the need to buy extra cables. You simply replace jumpers by resistors or inductors.
It allows to tap into USB wires with a voltmeter, oscilloscope or spectrum analyzer.

I needed something to disconnect the VBUS wire for OctoPrint. I wasn't keen on the tape on contacts workaround which leaves adhesive residue inside the USB connector.
The adapter is small and versatile. Standard 0.1" (2,54 mm) jumpers are flush with the top of the adapter housing. Unused jumpers can be put on the already connected left two pins, so they don't get lost.
