Read More…A tiny breakout PCB for the Sharp GP2AP03VT00F Time-of-Flight distance sensor. It has an Enable pin, Interrupt pin to indicate measurement is finished, and communicates over I2C. It runs on 3.3 V only, don't try to power it with 5 V, you WILL blow it up as there is no voltage regulation on-board. (Also, what are you still doing with 5 V in this day and age?)
Pinout (pin 1 is the square pad):
Pin | Signal | Comment |
---|---|---|
1 | GND | 0V reference for the circuit |
2 | SDA | I2C data signal (47K pull-up on board, your master board should have its own pull-up) |
3 | SCL | I2C clock signal (47K pull-up on board, your master board should have its own pull-up) |
4 | INT | Interrupt (open drain with 47K pull-up on board) |
5 | EN | Enable input (with 47K pull-up on board to enable by default |
6 | VDD | 3.3 V power |
The part's GPIO pin is available on test point TP1, though I have not yet found a use for it due to lack of public documentation.
To make it easier to get started, I wrote a simple Arduino driver which can be found on Github.
I wanted to evaluate this part for use in another product, and I could not find any breakout boards for it on the market. Because the part is tiny and these ToF sensors tend to be heat sensitive and like to melt when hand assembling them, I opted to have JLCPCB do the assembly. Because the board is tiny, I needed to put a minimum of 30 PCBs on a panel to get to the minimum panel size, and JLCPCB has a minimum 2 panel requirement for assembly, so I ended up with 60 pieces while I only needed a few for testing. So now there is a simple breakout board for this part on the market so you can easily test it as well. :)
At the time of writing, as far as I know there is no other breakout on the market for this part.
