What is it?

This PCB ruler is a reference board for all PCB designers. It's a reminder tool which will save your time during PCB design. It will quickly and efficiently answer to most of common questions during PCB design.

The reference board contains:

common SMD footprints (RLC, Diode/Transistor, integrated circuit)
common connector pitchs
common VIA drill diameters with the corresponding maximum current
sample of copper trace width (in mill and mm)
sample of silkscreen line width
sample of silkscreen text font and ratio
conversion tables (inch/mm, mil/mm, oz/gr, oz/um)
table of copper trace width Vs. maximum current
table of copper trace voltage Vs. min clearance distance for functional isolation
a simple metric ruler (0-8cm)

The board has a good form factor of 100mm x 24mm x 1.2mm, not too tiny for easy manipulation and not too large for discreet use.

Why did you make it?

I made this product for my personal use firstly because, others PCB reference board I found on the market was not as complete as I wanted.

What makes it special?

It include uncommon but very useful information like tables to determine trace width and clearance according to current and voltage gap.

It's also very cheap compared to the time you will save !

Is it available in different PCB color ?

At this moment, only the standard green version is available. If I get enough interest for this product, I may design a new version with different PCB colors (Red, Blue, Yellow, Black, White). Just let me know !

Removing my original review as seller did ship product.
Address was correct, but for some reason my postal service marked it as undeliverable and returned it to seller. Seller provided proof of postage, photo of returned item shows it was mailed out on 1-16-2020 and was returned as undeliverable this month.

As such, I tried to remove the product and documentation rating and change shipping to 3 and communication to 5. As tindie will not let me leave fields unrated, I had to enter product and documentation as 3. My reasoning is, I still don't have the product or documentation and would rather leave those fields blank, but 3 out of 5 is as close to neutral as I can put when required to enter something.

To sum it up, communication with seller was great, shipping sucked (probably due to laziness of someone at usps), so spring for tracked shipping if you make the purchase.

I am agree with James to tell the best thing to do is to consider the extra cost of getting a tracked shipping with insurance. Especially for shipping to the USA where the shipping issues are the most commun (by experience).

Never received

Ordered December 2016. Was excited to receive this nice looking ruler. At the time, there was no option to choose tracked shipping. I never received the ruler and the seller told me he won't help me because I did not choose tracking. 6 months later, still no ruler :(. How do I know he even shipped it?

Really handy 'cheat sheet'

I rated the documentation for what's printed on the PCB, as in fact I consider that as the real documentation anyway.

Bought the product, got a lovely confirmation and received it a couple days later. Excellent communication. I do however have a tip: The ruler is hard to use as the PCB is cut at the wrong side. Please consider to flip the design 180deg. so that the ruler will be nice and flat when you zip a pencil along it.

But, for this price it really is a handy thing. It really helps to be able to take a look at it and thinking "oh yeah, that's how it's supposed to be and how I'd like it to be". Also quite handy and not very long. Slips in the pocket easily.

What's there more to say... Just buy it!

Nifty little ruler

I like this ruler, very handy to have a reality check when designing PCB's on that big monitor with zoomed in PCB. Only remark is the breakoff tabs on the top of the ruler, they are a bit sharp and rough. Otherwise the ruler is very nice.

Thanks for your review. About the edge, it depends on how the PCB has been split from the panelized board. In case of sharp edge, you can easily smooth it with a small piece of sand paper.

Very useful for design work

This is a wonderful assistant when doing board design work. however I was taken by surprise to see how small it is. I though it would be larger, but I should have looked much closer at the pictures. However, the handy information it contains is still quite useful and the quality is outstanding.

Disappointed

First off, these cannot be used as a straight-edge, they used perforated tabs on both sides of the rule, one one of the ones I got, they didn't even bother to break off the tabs. Second, one while side is text, which I suppose I should have seen before I bought it. So nothing on the obverse side that couldn't be put on a PFD or paper 'cheat-sheet'. The text on the back is so small I need a magnifying glass to read it, which means to use that info the required magnifying glass size has to be considered as part of the overhead to use it, another reason the info is better off on a piece of paper.
The footprints etc. are good, but not enough of them, it would have been better to use both sides for those.

The Adafruit one overall is much better, but this one gives me some metric info the adafruit one does not.

Fantastic

Very good pcb ruler

The ruler has an amazingly useful assortment of information in such a small item. Possibly it could be bigger as the text is smallish, but small size is also an advantage - it can carried easily in a wallet or pocket. Very good value for money. Wasn't sure how to rate documentation - there isn't any...

Does its job

This PCB ruler does its job quite well. It is well designed, silkscreen is clear and not too thin. PCB is thick enough and the overall format is not too big (8cm long) and would easily fit in a pocket or a small toolbox but having it longer would be interesting for me, maybe 12 or 15cm . i have one at each place I may need it. that is worst its price. May buy some again.

Nice pcb ruler

The next version should be about 15-20 cm full scaled ruler.
Pleas make better position for the break cut oft the pcb. In this version the break is bad positioned becouse it's on the rule line und I get no straight line. Every time I draw it it is wiggled.
