Serial IO Kit for OctoPrint

This kit is based on the SIO Control board. But we have added everything you need to get right to using it with OctoPrint.

If you are looking for a way to control IO (relays,switches and buttons) from the OctoPrint interface, you have found it. This will work with any OctoPrint instance. It works with a Raspberry Pi, Linux based PC or even Windows 10,11. You don't need to know much about electronics to use this. We include example for controlling power supplies, LEDs, filament runout switches and more. There is also plenty of room for customization for your special setup. Firmware can be updated with your custom code or you can use the updates we add in the future. You are in complete control. We just did all the not-so-fun parts.

The board

Pre-Loaded with Open source firmware. Specifically designed and configured for use with the SIO Control Plugin for OctoPrint, this controller is based on a ESP32-WROOM-32E module. It is ideal for adding IO to you OctoPrint instances. There are 13 configured IO points for use from OctoPrint; 2 Relay out, 4 designated Inputs and 6 configurable (default to INPUT_PULLUP) points. It's got plenty of IO for your project. There is a 4 relay version coming soon.

You can take remote control things like the Power supply, lights, and just about anything you might want to turn on and off. Also you can monitor inputs like a filament runout sensor or local physical buttons. It has built in support for a physical E-Stop if you want that extra safety right at your printer. Future updates will include the ability give inputs an automation script or gcode to run when activated. Also in the works is a closed loop control system for things like enclosure heat control. We are also be looking for user feedback for where to take it next.

• 2 onboard relays mapped to G16,G17 [IO 11-12]
• 1 status LED mapped to G23 and [IO 13]
• 4 input lines (3.3v) mapped to G34,G35,G36[svp],G39[svn] as [IO 0-3] (Available as Dupont posts IO Points)
• 6 configurable IO (3.3v) mapped to G0,5,12,13,14,33,25 as [IO 4-10] (Available as Dupont posts IO Points)
• This board comes with firmware preloaded to use with the SIOControl OctoPrint Plugin.

Why the kit?

A goal of this project/kit is to make it possible for any 3d printing enthusiasts out there that don’t have the time to research, design and build something like this. Yet want to have the bells and whistles that they see other community members enjoying. It’s well packaged with a professional final product look which will compliment your existing setup no matter how fancy it is. It is also aimed at users that have decided for whatever reason to not use a Raspberry Pi for OctoPrint. It brings a direct connected set of IO to your device even if it’s virtualized.

With this kit, you will be ready to go without having to do the research on how to build the electronics design a custom enclosure or source any extra parts. If you choose the fully assembled option, all of the soldering and wiring will be completed you should be up and running inside of 5 minutes of unboxing. Just connect your peripherals (PSU, Lights etc.) to the terminal blocks. There is a lot of room for expanding its capabilities and there are lots of plans for doing just that.
