Iron handle and cartridge info

This controller has a GX12-5 connector and can work with some clone handles. Unfortunately not every handle with GX12-5 plug has the same pinout so here is the "supported" pinout for this controller:

Please note that I cannot be held responsible for any damages caused by improper handle pinout/wiring. Please check before connecting. You can also purchase a handle with your order that will work with this controller.

Clone cartridges: Any T12/T15 cartridge that costs less than ~US $15 and/or not purchased directly from Hakko or its authorized dealers (like Digikey etc.) is a clone. However, if you "break-in" the clones properly, they will work. Breaking in is easy; simply use / leave it over 350°C for 5 minutes. During the 5 minutes, the temperature readout will jump like crazy and after that it should be pretty solid. You must do this for every cartridge once on its lifetime. Don't forget to tin the tip during break-in for reducing oxidation. Some controllers will try to hide this "jumping" phenomenon by applying a huge amount of software and/or hardware smoothing. I'm not doing that because it induces a delay in the control loop. This controller is designed and tuned for providing the best heat delivery/recovery performance, as it should be.

Another T12/T15 controller?

Good question! Actually this is not new. I'm building DC powered soldering iron controllers since 2015; way before than Eastern products dominated the market. Competing with them on price is impossible for a small business, so I avoided the T12 scene but made a controller for my personal use. Recently I updated the design and decided to offer remaining PCBs by turning them into a complete unit. Features like 6-25V DC input range with constant heating power regardless input voltage and reverse polarity protection is currently not offered by any other controller. Also by being the maker and not a reseller, I can provide reliable answers for your questions, in English. Nevertheless I strongly suggest doing your own research before purchasing anything, including this.

Notes:

• All controllers are electrically and functionally tested before shipping.
• While we are aiming for highest quality possible, this is a hand-assembled device and there may minor cosmetic blemishes. It's actually pretty good for a tool but please kindly note that is not coming from a certain fruit-named brand.
