Absolutely awesome

Really awesome device, i can not thank enough the people who spend their time to develope this! A little complaint is the limited password length. I think 64 characters would be much better and secure, but i think this will be implemented in the next gen.

Sorry to say, but shipping was really bad. Comes from China and needs up to three weeks (in my case only 9 days). Because i thought the package should be arriving in 2-3 days, i was on vacation as it finally arrived. So it stuck for two days, half-way in, in my mailbox. My luck, no one stoled it. Also my luck, the slight rain these days has not make it through all of the package layers. I would also expect that such a security sensitive device, comes in a sealed package.

We do not use sealed packages as a security measure as they could easily be copied.

Amazing product, that I can only recomend!

I have had this product for 2-3 Weeks now, I have been using it primarily on a Fedora system, but I have also tried on a Windows 10 system. Over all I am very satisfied with the product and going to recommend it.

Purchasing: After ordering, there was a small technical issue, that was solved within a day. Here I would like to emphasize how customer friendly the shop support is, which is better than most large and well known companies.

Hardware product: The product has a nice premium feel to it. It is intuitive to use. The only little annoyance is the screen: The device screen is not in flush with the case of the product, which makes it easy for small particles getting trapped in the hollowed case. I am not an engineer, but I'am sure there is a reasoning behind it. As mentioned this is just a minor annoyance that one could get used to fairly quickly.

Software product: A giant + for the cross platform management app, as a linux user I really appreciate it. This is also intuitive to use, and it is being continuously updated, which is always awesome for a security product. If there is one feature I would request is an easy way to print the database, I know that it could be a potential security hole, on the other hand it gives the option for an easier non-digital backup. this is where I would also like to emphasize, that digital backup of the encrypted database does exist, as well as the cloning of the card, for the key backup.

Documentation: If there were things, that were not completely intuitive, they were described in the manual and on the website. The only thing I would add is a how to install the software guide. It is something very standard for the linux environment, but never the less it is a nice addition for those who are not that familiar with the process.

P.S.: A shout out for Tindie, for not spamming me 3 days after I bought the product for review.

Mooltipass Mini it’s good but needs improvement

I bought Mooltipass Mini A while ago and I think it needs some improvement what it needs is a larger storage capacity or where we Inc. can insert a miniature SD card for more storage of passwords or programs or files. Say if you do have some bitcoin keys to store privately this would be one place to store them if the capacity was greatly enlarged. But anyway this hardware password or wallet is very good easy to put in your pin codes and unlock it with the card that the cards that are provided that you set up so if you do have a Lotta passwords by this product I highly recommend it. So if the improvements can be done I’d buy another one just for that thank you very much for reading

Nice Idea, but not a finished product

The idea of a hardware password manager with id cards is very good, and this is a good attempt at a product.
However, it cannot deliver what it promises. At this time, it is a hardware dongle to be used with an installed application, which is not available for mobile devices.
Generally, I'd have liked to use the auto-type feature on my android devices as well as my PC with Qubes OS. Unfortunately, that feature is not really usable. It works only with basic ASCII characters, which is too big a limitation for secure passwords. None of my existing passwords are limited to simple ASCII, and weakening my passwords is not what I had in mind when I got this device. Extended ASCII would probably be enough to support all my current passwords, but this device is not capable of that. Also, it does not seem that the developer is still working on the device or firmware, my questions about improvements were deflected with hints to the "next device". Which would mean this is a mediocre device without support and no future updates.
My own attempts to extend the ASCII functions to extended ASCII were hindered by the total lack of documentation. The developer does answer some questions, but ultimately I was unable to figure out how to generate new keyboard layouts, and got no answer.

The best I can say about this project is that it is the best attempt at a trustworthy hardware password manager I have seen. But it is not good enough.

Rest assured that the ASCII charset space (more than 100 chars) allows you to have a grand total of 1x10e62 (1 with 62 zeros after!) combinations, which allows you to store nearly impossible to crack passwords. We're indeed working on lifting the ASCII limitation on an upcoming device.

Drop dead gorgeous and very functional

On the Tindie service.

Delivery was from China although tindie order looks like it will ship from Switzerland easy mistake but product page is clear. Caveat emptor.

Very slow shipping. Extraordinarily slow including more than a week in the UK. One whole week spent processing customs.

I had to pay customs handling fees which were over twice the actual customs due!

On the device itself

It is drop dead gorgeous the OLED is beautiful crisp, clear, bright (even at 10%). The blue is just so vibrant. The animations as you scroll are oddly satisfying as is using the scroll wheel with lets you intuitively navigate the devices firmware. More on the scroll wheel later.

Due to issues with purchasing a Mooltipass (slow delivery, customs issues, expensive) some degree of vendor lock in. Requires you to buy another device (admittedly the cheapest compatible card readers seem to be about £15) to read the mooltipass cards to extract keys to decrypt your back up. Another issue is while the smart cards appear to be cut down from the normal credit card form factor, I can’t find any of these AT888SC102 in smart card form factor at quantities less than 100 units. That means I have to pay shipping to get hold of these otherwise normal cards from China (and presumably wait 3 weeks). I’ve not idea of the reason these particular cards were selected, there might be very good reason for it for all I know.

The wheel is intuitive to use but snap risk and seems to be the most likely point of failure for the device. Would 3 buttons be so awful? Or even 2 buttons like a ledger or even 3 buttons, it would make confirm and cancel more intuitive in my opinion.

The browser integration for the most part works very well. There are intolerable nag screens whenever a page is loaded without the mooltipass connected. Look to your OS settings to supress these notifications but those only seem to have been a temporary fix for me. The app does not allow you to make this change.


Using the device unaided works well.

It seems passwords are generated computer side before transfer to the device. This has pros and cons. A pro being increased entropy compared to on device alone. A con is that I trust the device more than I trust the computer. Overall though it doesn’t seem to make a security difference because passwords must be on the computer at some point to be useful (or you can’t log in!).

There are no on device password management features. To add a password you either have to do so through the desktop app like Moolticute (more on that later) or the browser plugs (more on that later too).

The 31 character password limit is unfortunate (for me) as all my pre-existing passwords are 32 characters long! I’ll have to be very sure of the Mooltipass before I move over passwords that I could not afford to lose. My Github password is 64. This was of course in hindsight overkill, but overkill without a draw back when my password manager allowed it!

I did accidently lock myself out of an account in the first day I had the Mooltipass (generated a password and forgot to save it!). So make sure you do some trial runs, maybe using new accounts to get the hang of the process.
The browser plugins are very helpful in reducing clicks on the device, however the notification with pop up noise every time the device isn’t plugged in it soul destroying, as is the notifications that the password is too long (even if you don’t want to save it to the device).
The password generate is clunky; you must go into settings to change characteristics and it does not ensure at least one character per category included so you might tick include numbers if the site requires it and it might not actually include a number (by random). Finally, as I said I did lock myself out more than once and that’s mostly my fault of course but why would I want to generate a new password and NOT save it?

Overall, I am very pleased with this device, it’s not perfect, far from it, but it works well and is head and shoulders ahead of the others. Did I mention just how gorgeous this device is? I like that it will work with any device unlike other hardware password managers and allows easy navigation of logins on the device. I do think improving the plugin will be low hanging fruit and this would improve the experience immensely.

- You may actually purchase standard cards from us in single quantity, on tindie
- We actually tried a 3 button interface, but that made the scrolling experience disastrous
- In theory notifications should only appear once if your device is not connected
- Password are actually generated using the device onboard RNG
- On device password management: we actually didn't implement it because of the display low resolution
- We'll add an option to disable all notifications in moolticute in our next release

The plus point of this product is a very good product. the negative point of the product is the encoder wheel in the long run I think there will be problems. I will definitely buy a second one to transform it and put it inside my computer laptop

Satisfied concept.

The idea is great. A card with PIN-code, and a hardwaretool that emulates a keyboard.
There is only one slight problem: The scroll-wheel. I am afraid, soon this tiny piece of hardware stops working.

Great password manager - Not for the faint of heart

This is a great little hardware password manager, very secure and well designed. The access card is great, no card no password plus you need to know the pin which is 4 Hexadecimal digits.

The Chrome and Firefox integration are fairly good, they do miss some states but overall good. For IE and Edge as well as other logins it's easy to select the site from the hardware menu. The Open Source gives me great confidence that there are no back doors, plus I can recompile from the source code if I'm really paranoid.

For the weakness, first I'm a software developer and this isn't my first hardware password manager so understand I'm being critical from the point of view of someone who knows what is possible.
- The scroll wheel isn't great as the only input device, there is no way to back-up if you make an error entering your pin and you only get 3 chances.
- The lack of internal battery is an issue if your phone doesn't support OTG.
- This would benefit from Bluetooth as plugging in to your phone isn't a great way to do it, secure wireless over Bluetooth would solve that.
- A fingerprint reader would be a nice option for unlocking as that scroll wheel gets old very fast.

That being said I'm looking to purchase a second one so I can keep one at home and one at work, no more forgetting it.

Spend the extra cash to get 5 or 10 extra cards and keep one or two clones because once you forget your pin code 3 times the card is killed and you can only throw it in the bin.

I don't trust software password managers and this is the best H/W password manager I've used that is available today so I'll keep using it and update the firmware as improvements are made.

Recommended for everyone that is at least moderately comfortable with technology Hardware and software.

Not as easy as I thought

Not quite sure if this is the tool for my needs. I am a novice when it comes to setting up apps and such. Was not as easy as I anticipated from the online video. I wanted something offline and one of the first steps was to download an app. Haven't had a chance to work through it yet or figure out how to use it on devices other than my home computer. The small cable end of the cord seems fragile.

Awesome!

Purchased one to try out.
Really easy to use, like that you can use without browser extension so you know credentials are local to the device, and no issues of being "out there" as some fear. No more spreadsheets with passwords!

Had an issue with exporting the database, super quick response from Mathieu, and after further testing, located a bug, which will be reviewed in future software updates with Moolticute app. Very impressed, the product and the service are at the same level of awesomeness!

Keep it up Mathieu, definitely a follower here in Australia!

Verry dissapointing

The first shock was when I used package tracker to discover the product is made in China. I do not want a password security device that is made in China. Secondly web browser support is really poor and neither MS Edge or IE are supported. Finally the documentation is poorly written and imprecise. I have decided that the only place for this is the bin.

Excellent password manager 10/10

Super good password manager.
Couldn't recommend this enough; it's really easy to use, and super secure.
Will buy upgrade to any subsequent versions.
My only criticisms are that before I realised how this product works I accidentally nuked one of my pass cards; I thought the cards have the database on them, but they actually have the private key, so when I tried to update the database on the key it broke, lol.
Luckily I have 4, so it doesn't matter.
Will probably buy more cards to be safe (definitely get extra cards in case you lose them), might even buy another mooltipass, although I don't know how easy it is to back up the database on a second device, might be more work than I can be bothered with.

Overall the product is good but can have more improvement in the future. If the next generation of Mooltipass can include an administrator account to manage all this smartcard for on-boarding and off-boarding process. Then, this product will be for suitable to be used in corporate usage.

Top Produkt mit Potential

Ich habe nach einer sicheren Lösung Passwörter zu speichern gesucht. Ich wollte keine Kompromisse eingehen und weder die Passwörter auf dem PC noch online in irgend einer Cloud speichern. So habe ich schließlich Mooltipass gefunden. Die Hardware ist gut verarbeitet, der Display gut lesbar und das Karten-Wechselsystem sehr durchdacht. An der Software wird mit ständigen Updates und Verbesserungen gearbeitet. Das freut mich als Kunde und macht Hoffnung, dass das Produkt irgendwann alle meine Wünsche abdecken kann.

Leider gibt es etwas was mich an dem Produkt was mich stört und ich deshalb nicht 5/5 Sterne vergeben kann. Es ist die Passwortzeichenbeschränkung auf 31 Zeichen. Ich hatte das Gerät hauptsächlich gekauft um meine Steemit-Passwörter abzuspeichern. Diese sind so lange wie sie sind und das kann ich leider nicht ändern. Hier ein Beispiel: STM5X1X9dYZZKUa4tWsELShXXTZoJbg3jui2NRDBr6fJ8yS6pFxDD

Mir ist durchaus bewusst, dass für die Sicherheit alleine 31 Zeichen reichen würden. Jedoch würde ich es als Chance sehen, wenn in Zukunft grössere Passwörter möglich sein würden. Dadurch wird natürlich auch Speicherplatz auf dem Gerät verloren gehen und je nach Speichereinteilung/Programmierung ist es ein grosser Aufwand diese Funktion zu implementieren. Vielleicht kann ja der Benutzer selber wählen wie grosse Passwörter er haben möchten unter dem Punkt „Einstellungen“ dann muss er halt insgesamt mit weniger Passwörter auskommen. Ich würde mich aber sehr darüber freuen 

Trotzdem ist es ein Top Produkt und ein grosses Lob an den Entwickler / das Entwicklerteam.

I have been looking for a secure solution to store passwords. I didn't want to compromise and neither store the passwords on the PC nor online in any cloud. So I finally found Mooltipass. The hardware is well processed, the display is easy to read and the card changing system is very well thought out. The software is constantly being updated and improved. This pleases me as a customer and gives me hope that the product will be able to cover all my wishes at some point.

Unfortunately there is something about the product that bothers me and I can't give out 5/5 stars. It is the password character restriction to 31 characters. I mainly bought the device to store my Steemit passwords. These are as long as they are and unfortunately I cannot change that. Here is an example: STM5X1X9dYZZKUa4tWsELShXXTZoJbg3jui2NRDBr6fJ8yS6pFxDD

I am well aware that 31 characters alone would be enough for security. However, I would see it as an opportunity if larger passwords would be possible in the future. This will of course also result in a loss of memory space on the device and depending on the memory allocation/programming it will be a great effort to implement this function. Maybe the user can choose himself how big passwords he would like to have under the point "Settings" then he has to get along with less passwords. But I would be very happy about that :)

Nevertheless it is a top product and a big praise to the developer / developer team.

Well built hardware, Good security protocols, SW unreliable.

Needed a password vault more than an active password manager, but was attracted to the promise of automation and better security offered.

The usage protocols required to load passwords (or change them) are well thought out, but a bit cumbersome. Other devices would be the same in this regard.
The hardware and included cable are of high quality - though my error rate on entering my pin with the thumbwheel is about 10 percent.

The software (MooltiCute) is a good balance between function and complexity. Too bad it crashes the first time I use it on a freshly booted computer (MAC Mini).
Second attempts to restart MooltiCute fail unless the dead app is killed from the command-line. The software is very good about keeping you secure and does not let you do bad things that might compromise security. (I would have liked a way to export an ASCII representation, but understand reasons for not allowing it. (Third party scripts seem available though.)

Security is inconvenient. I will continue to use the very fine Mooltipass Mini, although I don't think I will gift the spare I purchased to a less patient friend :-) ..

Mooltipass Mini Offline Password Keeper

I've received my Device relatively quickly considering where it came. It was packed extremely well which was a relief.
Setting it up was pretty straightforward as the Company has a dedicated page for its setup. I will say this read everything on the website on the setup page, so you understand the operation of your device. It came with a long cord which was a nice touch so it could be placed out of the way while working. And it works as promised, it gives you the option to use a password of your own or it can generate a strong password for better protection. Overall I'm extremely pleased with this device. Also before I made the purchase I had some questions about certain things and the Owner answered my questions without hesitation which put my mind at ease. The decision was pretty easy after that.
I recommend this device to anyone who has to remember or have numerous passwords.

Solid buy

So I purchased this device after trying similar products in this category. After using the mooltipass, it is hands down the best device in the offline password category.

I have since migrated all creds and private ssh keys to device. Although not a 2fa device, the request to approve login makes it feel as such.

The only annoyance is in attempting to use this device with a cellphone. One would have to scroll through the list of creds to use. Although the list can be reduced by using favorites, I still find that this experience can be improved.

Overall I do recommend this product. It works very well, the user experience is smooth (browser plugins). In addition, users can create extremely complex passwords without the fear of forgetting.

One last thing, the device does offer the ability to store files.

Great product

Mooltipass is a great product. I bought a second one after trying out one. I mainly use it for my most sensitive and less frequently used passwords for maximum security. For less sensitive passwords, I use a software password manager for convenience - the convenience is especially helpful for mobile devices. The combination of the two works really well for me.

Promising, not ready for corporate ... yet

After using it for about 2 weeks now, I really love my Mooltipass!

Great software infrastructure
- "Knocking to enter" is a great gimmick!
- Charmingly os agnostic, transparent approach (Mooltipass acts as a keyboard).
- Windows components (browser add-in, Moolticute hardware "driver" app) are installable by the user, without admin privileges.
- Data backups and duplication of cards and devices are thoroughly supported.

Hardware shortcomings
- Wheel acts erratic, number on display sometimes rolls in the opposite direction of wheel movement or even jumps 1-2 notches further (as a result, it takes much longer to dial 4 digits than to input a 12 digit password via keyboard, this leads to an inclination to not using the device).
- Card size is "off", a card at standard credit card size would be advantageous, with a hole to attach a key ring/card strap/lanyard.

Not ready for corporate deployment (yet - these can be fixed via software)
- Option to install a protected Windows logon (via GINA.DLL) is missing.
- No fixed link between registered active directory user and specific Mooltipass device is possible.

Wishlist
- Device should be usable as an "offline" lookup tool, to completely replace my spreadsheet password and PIN "database" (or: full-size password manager like KeePass). I'd like to be able to specify if I want the password to be entered or to be displayed.
- A battery supported device option would be a welcomed next step ...

- wheel behavior: this sometimes happens when some dust or grease accumulates inside the mechanism. Simply use a little of isopropyl alcohol to get rid of that annoyance :)

Great Product!

All in all a great Product. Simple and efficient, the interface is well designed and I can't complain about anything to do with the Mooltipass itself. The Software is great too however the newest version doesn't support my older operating system (which is OSX 10.10.5) which is annoying. The shipping is very pricy and seems too high when compared to other products I have ordered from China. But apart from that nothing to complain.

Awesome product

I will buy the mooltipass again and again, another one for traveling as well as some presents for family and friends. Before I used the keepass app and it was already much nicer than keeping lists of passwords on paper or in manually encrypted files.
The mooltipass has a few big advantages over everything else I used or saw before:
- Open Hardware (obviously I wouldn't want to trust my credentials to other hardware anymore which uses e.g. intel processors that may potentially leak every trusted bit of information via exploitation of stuff like ME, AMT or various flaws like spectre, meltdown etc.)
- Extra device only for this concern (doing all on one device makes you incredibly dependent on that and if you lose it or it's stolen everything is a really big mess)
- Ease of use (I thought keepass was easy but mooltipass is really astonishing simple)

These are just some good reasons to buy this. Another one is that I like the idea of open source / hardware business and would rather support this project instead of buying a cheaper and not really trust-worthy alternative from some big company that I don't trust. I wouldn't just buy the mooltipass to support it - this is just a good side effect.

Works great so far

Used the mooltipass for 2 weeks now and have really enjoyed using it to keep things more secure. It's very easy to use, looks sleek, functions great. I guess the only concern I have is that I'll wear out the scroll wheel from clicking it, but not worried about that now. I'd definitely consider buying a backup and maybe encourage friends/family to consider using it to make their information more secure.

Mooltipass Mini

I'm already using this product for a while (bought 2 for my wife and myself) and can only say it's AMAZING. Previously I was using 1password but then realized that storing passwords in the cloud is not secure and I had a lot of problems with their plugins so that had to unlock the main app to copy passwords and paste on the website every time. All these issues are now gone with Mooltipass Mini which is much easier to use. I'm using it on the computer and with IPhone (which requires Mooltipass to be adjusted a little bit: set "wait 5 ms after each keypress" in Moolticute app). The screen is very contrast, pretty big and very easy to read. Scrolling wheel feels awesome and very fast. Authentication on the websites is immediate, Mooltipass understands where to type login and password (which could be overridden for non-standard websites) and does all this job.

The concept of the card is awesome and adds security. Everything can be adjusted/customized, there are a lot of useful settings in Moolticute. Passwords backups to binary files is also possible. The product is designed by extremely smart and talanted people. Thank you!

An amazing Password Manager

So, I was basically looking for better password managers online, been getting fed up with LastPass for a good while now and KeePass is extremely slow and requires too much manual labour to operate it. I wanted some smoother experience without the hacks involved. And since my activity usually low risk since I don't download that much things, I thought a hardware based solution would be amazing, but I didn't find anything interesting in the beginning. But then my friend told me about the product he came across but he was reluctant to buy, but I looked at the documentation and stuff associated with the product and I was quite blown away. I tried other password managers like Myki, but I was quite astonished how easily a government entity could spoof my telephone number and take over my password data without my permission, and they can actually do it! While I was actually looking around I figured out these are not really good solution and I finally decided about giving the Mooltipass a try.

And I have to say this hits the spot. Except the shipping.

The Moolticute app itself is very handy, I managed to put some handy files onto the device already, logging into the device with the Mooltipass is as easy as a breeze, in comparison to the Ledger Nano S, this thing takes less time to get into the main interface, although I didn't get to try out the Trezor Model T yet, I suspect it takes lot less touching or clicking to get into the password manager. Also to note, the Nano S's passwords are deterministic and have different settings under what deterministic passwords appear based on the title that is given for each entry which determines the character combination based on the master seed. I'd love to see something similar in this. Although those passwords are much shorter 20 characters long only, which is not quite feasible in my opinion. Although they contain a lot more different types of characters with full ASCII and other encoding support.

The Mooltipass is a clear winner here. I actually started changing my passwords now on goonfleet.com, logging in via the device is a lot easier task now and even getting into EVE's main application without having to save the password unsecurely on the local drive.

I did take a me a bit of time to figure out how to use it with Android, because the password didn't want to work properly until I figured out I can change the keyboard layout in the settings on Android when the HID- connected sign is in the status bar. It's really good, also (I suspect) it can detect it is running a different operating system because on Android the typing is a lot slower but still accurate, managed to log into amazon with it just fine. Also I was thinking that a micro-to-micro short cable would be included but it wasn't so I kinda felt let down with that. Also the fact that USB-C is not supported, is quite weird, should have been in the first place! But still good, perhaps in a new Mooltipass in the future.

I gave the product 5 starts because it is so epic, with the documentation and the communication same 5 stars, Limpkin is pretty fast with replies. I was quite generous with the shipping giving it 3 starts, only because the Mooltipass arrived unharmed. xD I saw some horror stories about it never arriving or screen being wonky (mine doesn't even rattle, although I must admit I did try and shake it a bit to see if it does it xD) or the wheel broken on arrival, phew, must be a nightmare with the 4-5 week long wait time. If you order this, you better forget about it for quite some time, because I was literally stalking the DHL shipping page constantly for the past 2 weeks, drove me nuts. xD The device took 5 weeks to arrive, also it been in the country of destination (Hungary), I do know our postal service is a nightmare shouldn't be blaming DHL for it, but I'm happy that it arrived unexpectedly today!

Hopefully now that I have the Mooltipass my friend will also consider getting one or two for himself also! :D Thanks for the amazing product!

Overall ignore the stars on top, it is 5 out of 5.

Conclusion after a year

I've used this device for nearly a year now.
Saving and using passwords is working like a charm with the browser plugin and moolticute.

I'm using moolticute for quite a while now and it's doing a nice job so far.
Sure, it's far from beeing finished (at least I hope it is) but there's one thing I'm missing most:
I'd like to have an option to modify the service/site name to change an IP-Adress or URL without the need to re-add the entry.

That beeing said I'm staying tuned for future updates.

P.S.:
I'm still not able to view themooltipass.com from my location.

Is this the password manager you deserve?

Lets start with the exterior first, housing is really good.

The wheel button, I like hardware buttons, however after two weeks, it starts to get a slightly loosely (not a problem yet).

The screen, the screen doesnt get darker than 20% in moolticute, so you need to be careful, that noone is watching you from behind. Would be nice if it could get darker. At 20% its still very bright.

Software, I only used the app moolticute. I cant comment yet on the browser extensions yet.
The biggest downside from my point of view, to enter new data into the mooltipass, you need software. Without installing additional software like moolticute or other browser extensions, [at this moment] the mooltipass is basically useless.
I would have been nice if you could use the mooltipass without additional software to manage your [creating new] credentials.

Support gives quick responses, but currently emails to request a password to verify that the device was not tempered doesn't get answered anymore.
The process of... Well actually the attempt to verify a user by asking the user details is flawed, hopefully a better process can be put into place. In github i created a pull request [got merged], hopefully instead of asking someone's address information, only a tindie order number should be enough.

Overall feeling, positive. Arbitrary pointing, 6.5 out of 8.
Would I be buying another one? Probably not [unless you can manage everything from the mooltipass itself].
Would I recommend it to other people, probably yes, until I see something better on the road.

Great Product

Exactly what I was searching for!

Pros:
-small
-pretty secure (to the best of my knowledge)
-easy to use (and snappy as hell)
-works on all devices which support usb keyboards (tested on an Android Phone and a PS4)

Cons:
-I'll have to get a second one as backup, because I'm not able to access my credentials when the device is broken or missing
-Export/Import for keepass etc. would be great
-It would be handy to be able to change the keyboard layout from the devices settings menu (perhaps from a list of favorites which is defined in the desktop app)
-nothing else, I love it

Great product with great service

Originally I bought two to see how this thing works. Now after some months I bought plenty more to have one everywhere. In office, in travel office set, in travel hotel set, to carry on, home etc.etc. And I stopped and cleared my contracts with all the cloud services managing my passwords. Portable way to safe/use passwords on the go in a safe way

I'm very content with this little portable device, I normally use keepass but I can't use it in all situations, at work for instance when I remotely connect using the console to a hyperv virtual machine, I'm not able to use the clipboard to paste username and password from keepass, however because the mooltipass emulates a keyboard it has no problem entering username and password, this makes it really easy especially because we use some really difficult passwords which are error prone when manually typing them in, with the mooltipass it's a matter of selecting what you want to enter, username and password or just the password.
Also seeing you need a personal pin, which you can choose between numbers and a few letters, in combination with the mooltipass mini card it's in my eyes pretty safe, just remember that if you aren't using it you keep the mini card seperate and even if you don't after 3 consecutive wrong pin entries the card gets locked. The options that you get with the management software is also very appreciated, I for instance set the device to auto lock after 15 minutes of non-use, so you're forced to enter your pin. Also you can use the management software to manually enter in credentials if you aren't using the browser plug-ins, there is an option to export your credential database and also to import, the exported file is encrypted using your pin and mini pass aes 256 key. Support has been great, I noticed that the scroll wheel was jumping between characters at the pin screen, I was going to make a support ticket, but than in a news letter they mentioned my problem and that you can contact support for a fix, I did and received a firmware update which solved my problem. I ordered another mooltipass device so I can have 1 permanently at home and 1 for on the go.

A great alternative to online password keepers

If you're a bit reluctant to use one of those online password keepers like lastpass, keepass or whatsoever, this system is a great solution.
It's easy and intuitive to use, if you're used to tinker around with hardware stuff, you won't even need the manual for the setup.
This new form factor surely adds into portability, although we're drifting from the original idea of just having one aside from the home/job workstation. And I liked the LED wheel better, but that's just aesthetic^^
So if you already have the older version, you can easily export your credentials to the mini and also use the older cards, no problems.
Happy to see firefox support since until last year I was entering my creds manually, which was not that convenient. now it works like a charm with firefox and the companion app.
I'm not that much of a power user, so I haven't yet reach any limitations. Others reviewer might have more insight on that matter
The community keeps adding new features and keep evolving so I'm definitely looking forward for the next version!

Easy use of Mooltipass

Mooltipass is easy to use. Not only with Chrome but also with other browsers (by manually input of your credentials) and other sites as long as there is a login page (even with Chrome incognito). Max. characters is 31. How about private keys (crypto) and longer passphrases? I read somewhere that there is a program called "Moolticute". I will certainly install this program.
Only one small matter is the manual. The manual could be a bit more extensive (how to: erase a card, use favorites), but after using it, I was able to make everything work just fine. Overall, a great tool. No more hassling with (many) USB sticks.

Not as fonctionnal as keepass

Passwords are limited to 31 chars and does not support all special characters like é,à...so it make mooltipass not suitable for use of passphrase (unlike passwords managers like keepass) and nothing about these limitations can be found in the doc.
However the products work well, setup in ~5min thank to a good documentation and friendly gui.

A very nicely built functions offline password vault

The device arrived promptly and came boxed in a nice good quality box. In side you will find the Mooltipass and a USB lanyard to carry it with, as well as 2 smart cards and a curious but quite cool braided USB cable. Operation is simple as it is powered by plugging it into USB power. A turn wheel on the side allows you to scroll up and down the menus, which are clearly displayed on a blue LCD, and a press selects the item. Very intuitive.

To use properly you need to install the App/Desktop App which give your administrative functions for managing passwords. Web browser plug-ins add login credentials to the Mooltipass.

A few limitations to the device might make it unsuitable though.

You can only import previously generated passwords via a simple CVS file which takes no account of the contexts of the credentials. Also passphrases are limited to 31 characters which though is quite sufficient entropy for most people means existing tokens may not be able to be imported or added to the device.

Otherwise it does exactly what it says it does by prompting when a saved login is noticed and typing in the username on one press and the password on another one.

Pretty cool, software still needs work

This is a good product, and with better software it could be amazing.

It's solidly built, even though the scroll wheel is a bit off - sometimes it scrolls up when you're scrolling down so it's not entirely smooth. But mostly works.

The software works pretty well on Chrome (I use Vivaldi, extensions are compatible). I get a feeling fixing some aspects of the software is not a super priority, since some notifications have a "don't show me this again" button that _does not work_ still, after months. Also, for some misguided sense of "super security", you can't export your passwords, only a memory dump of the device's storage. If it completely breaks down, you can either a) buy a new device or b) buy a smartcard reader, dump your smartcard's key, and run a Python script that the manufacturer posted to get access to the entries.

This is kinda dumb. Power users know what they are doing, and perfect security in the age of state-level adversaries is a pipe dream anyway. Instead, you put your trust in an unknown company's promises. I don't like that compromise. It feels like your OS preventing you from removing all files on a hard drive - tools shouldn't try to be too smart, just do what I want already. Show me a disclaimer or whatever, but it's my device, and I should be able to do with it whatever I want to do.

That being said, I did have a problem with one of the cards that came with my unit, and the manufacturer sent me ten (!) replacement cards for free. That was pretty awesome.

So yeah - it's great, but it has definite downsides. Also, I personally feel put off by the tone of their README file on github (https://github.com/limpkin/mooltipass#a-brief-history-of-security-flaws-and-breaches) it's a bit defensive and instead of just saying "we're good", it kinda implies "look how shit everyone else is". I prefer my products less petty :)

I'd recommend it, if you're aware of the downsides and still want a portable (Firefox/Chrome/Vivaldi/others being worked on) solution for password management.

Notifications: we'll check this, as we've never tested our extension on Vivaldi
The possibility to make an unencrypted backup would go directly against the security model of the Mooltipass. If we were to implement it, the resulting level of security you would achieve would be lower than standard password keepers.
As you mentioned, if you really want to do so you can use our Python tool - which does show you such a disclaimer.
We actually don't ask you to trust us! As our complete project is open source, you can reprogram your unit with your own custom firmware.
Github list: this is not the intended goal at all. We just want to provide a log of major incidents and their technical details.

Nice device, I hope it lasts for a long time

The device and software are both very good and convenient. The model of the security is convincing and the software is completely open.

I am just a bit concerned about the mechanical durability of the clicking wheel and the USB connector. But so far it works well.

A feature I would propose: It would be great if I could change the keyboard layout on the device without using the Mooltiapp on the PC. This way I could use it on a machine where I can not install the Mooltiapp and which uses a different keyboard layout. Maybe this could be done in a newer version of the firmware?

These are just some suggestions. The device is very convenient, well built and really nice to look at too!

An awesome product from awesome people

I heard a long time ago about the mooltipass, but wasn't fully convinced buying it. Working in the Information Security field, I deal with hundreds of passwords that must vary from each other and contain high entropy - meaning I spend lots of efforts creating them and tracking them.
I don't trust online password management services and rather have an offline, secure password manager.
The mooltipass is perfect for that reason. The product feels very sturdy and well made and I was pleasantly surprised with how polished the software interface is.
Last but definitely not least - the people behind the mooltipass are pleasant professionals. It was great communicating with them.
I will pass on the word to my colleagues!

I've been using the Mooltipass Mini for a while now and I love it. Especially useful for those websites that you almost never visit and never have the password for. Shipping and tracking with postNL was slow, and tracking updates infrequent, but it was worth the wait.

It does what it says, but there is so much room to improve

For the first 3 sites I tried this on, 3 of 3 failed to login properly. Whatever the cause, this is in the browser extension. The device seems to let you change settings, including lockout timer without authentication first. It seems to require authentication way to frequently, and password storage and organization capability leaves volumes to be desired. Could be much improved. I could imagine this being useful for dozens of passwords not hundreds, and if used as HID instead of through plugin auto.

- Small neat form factor.

Ok before I start I will say one thing I watched the online video but did no other reading of instructions. One of the tests of a product I like to do is just use it and if I get stuck it is usually because the interface is poorly designed.

I had no issues with using the Mooltipass I found it straight forward and only needed to resort to the paper instructions (which are excellent) for advanced features. I use it every day and have found it to be one of the best purchases I have ever made. The fact that I can travel with my important logins securely stored is very useful.

Two small issues that may have been brought up before but I will put them in here anyway are:

The fact that the keyboard has to be set using the App. is a bit of a pain because if you use a normal UK keyboard, as I do, and then swap to a Mac the encoding of the Chars is not correct (@ ...etc.). This is fine in the username but it will put the wrong password in if you use any special Chars so can lock you out of your account.

The second issue is where a company uses parts of passwords ( 1st char 5th char ...etc. ) I understand why this cannot be accommodated but I think it needs pointing out to potential purchasers.

Both of the above can be overcome with a bit of thought by the user but if you are using a non secure machine i.e. borrowed … etc. then it could be a security issue.

Delivery was longer than I expected coming direct from China not within Europe so allow 3 -4 weeks to be sure.

So after the negative bits above do I recommend it? Yes it is a great piece of kit and I would hate to be without it.

Keyboard layout change on the device rather than on the app is indeed something we're currently thinking of. For your second issue, the only solution when using a non secure computer may be using a usb power bank with the mini, it'll then display your passwords on its screen.
Delivery can indeed take up to 4 weeks if shipped from China, we've recently added the option to have your order shipped from Switzerland (which is unfortunately a bit more expensive).

Facile a configurer, et à fonctionner, une structure de menu auto-explicative.

Best way to keep track of your passwords

So far, the Mooltipass is the only way to store my passwords that I haven't seen a news article about it being hacked or shown to be programmed by people who make poor design choices. I really love the new Mini compared to the original touchscreen version. The jog wheel makes it much easier to enter the unlock pin faster. It is super easy to use, and generating long, randomly-generated passwords is easy to do with the MooltiApp or the browser plugins.

The Mooltipass is also the only open source password keeper in production of which I know. With the design fails of LastPass and the hack of OneLogin, I just can't trust a system that hides their code thinking that is one method for keeping my identity secured. I would rather the code be visible up front so that security researchers will be able to spot any problems without having to race against the "Black Hats" looking for hidden vulnerabilities.

So far, the only thing I dislike about it is that it takes about three weeks to get to the USA from Switzerland (well, that and I want an orange one!). I imagine that if it was any faster, it would probably cost much more money to ship, though.

Product is perfection, the supporting plugins aren't.

First off: the Mooltipass is excellent. There are only three passwords of mine that it can't save due to the character limit. Upon learning of this limit, my first thought was questioning why the creators didn't use a variable character length for the username and passwords per pair, instead of the fixed sizes.

Eg instead of 57 characters for a Description, 61 characters for the Username and 31 characters for the Password, having variable fields whose fields may add up to 144 (leaving 5 bytes for determining field boundaries). This would even allow much more flexibility in saving certain sensitive passwords locked under enterprise (64 or 128 character keys for example).

Aside from the curious 31 character password limit, the Mooltipass is an absolutely flawless device. At this point I am speaking only for the device itself.

HOWEVER, the plugins and applications associated are the bane of my existence.
If the Mooltipass could support Thunderbird, I'd be a happy man. (eg. Porting Firefox extensions to Thunderbird wouldn't require an entire rewrite. Being able to target Thunderbird/Icedove/etc cross-platform would be a fantastic way of gaining a lot of coverage.)
If the Firefox extension could support HTTP Basic Auth, I'd be a happier man.
If the Firefox extension installation metadata could mention that Firefox for Android isn't supported (Currently "Works with Firefox for Android 48.0 - *"), that would also be good.
Someone should 100% make a native Android app. ;)

The larger 3 passwords of mine will have to stay in my head, along with regular fights with issues software-side.

A++++ will buy an improved version if a v2 is ever made. :)

Overall a good product

Took longer than I thought to arrive (about 3-4weeks). The product is easy to use and not hard to understand for those who aren't tech savvy. Only thing I believe would be better is if you could copy and paste information from notepad to the application. It's time consuming transferring so many usernames and passwords. But this is exactly why I purchased this product! Good experience so far.

Defective card (1/4)

The unknown card message happens because your mini doesn't recognize the card you inserted. Is it possible that you deleted a user without deleting its card?

Good device for securely managing passwords and logins

I bought this device to help me securely manage all my passwords and be able to use it for safely logging in from multiple devices. For the most part the Mooltipass has accomplished this. Here are my pros and cons after having used the Mooltipass for about a week:

Pros:

-Well made.
-Easy to use.
-Best method I have found for keeping your passwords as safe as possible.
-Nice clear/bright screen.
-Wheel works well as input method.
-Comes with 2 smart cards so you can clone a backup.
-With proper cables, works with IOS and Android as USB keyboard.

Cons:

-Can't display text of login or password on the Mooltipass screen. This would be helpful for devices that don't accept USB keyboard.
-Import CSV requires you to confirm each entry with a wheel click. I had around 200, requiring 200 wheel clicks.
-For IOS/Android, no way provided to turn on screen keyboard on and off while Mooltipass connected. You must unplug Mooltipass from phone/tablet to get on screen keyboard back.

Actually logins and passwords can be displayed on the mini screen when powering the mini through a USB power bank and enabling the correct option in the settings tab of our app.
You'll be also happy to hear that you can display the android (I think also iOS) onscreen keyboard by going to your phone settings panel!

Excellent tool - very expensive shipping

The product idea is really very good, very easy to use in most case.
The big improvement to do is, i think, the shipping price that can be, with customs fee, very high - really too high for me (basically x2 with customs fee > 60$). However, good point for shipping is that was fast, faster that i can imagine. (few days). But you must find a solution to lower the shipping price (country's resellers ? Amazon ?).
The next good improvement, maybe for next version, is to have a double connection cable (to have compatibility out-of-the-box to all devices, including smartphone).
A great improvement can be to allow to change of some device settings from the device instead of MooltiApp. It can be usefull for keyboard layout, slow computer or the brightness settings for example.

But these are only improvements, for a first version, this is really amazing, everything is made to have full security, even little things !

Great device now working perfectly on Linux! I love it!

I‘ve been using and getting used to my Mooltipass Mini over the past two weeks, mainly on Arch Linux and Iceweasel.
At first I had some minor problems with the Moolticute app (or the extension?). I often had to restart the app because it seemed the Mini didn‘t stay connected. Very recently I did not experience that behaviour anymore. The Mini stays unlocked and offers to fill in the credentials as expected. I love it!

I‘d love to see support for the Icecat in the future.

Thanks for building such a wonderful device. The quality is great and it is easy to work with. I highly recommend this little device! It shows that it is possible to combine security and convenience.

Still in it's infancy but works well.

My memory is fading, and unfortunately the security requirements that each password be unique and strange is frankly impossible.
I am dubious about bequeathing my secure details to a machine, but less so than passing them on to the net.
I have a couple of issues with mooltipass which I have not seen an answer to yet. But as I have not seen the question raised perhaps that is because no one else has the issues?
Doesn't seem to want to record gmail, google, or thunderbird passwords. I would have thought email would have been a priority.
It took me twenty minutes this morning to get it to correctly remember my Choice password correctly though it generated it itself easily enough. This may have been because it had a past password to confuse it. It may also be something to do with me not yet disabling firefox's password remembering system. Not sure which over rides which, but not yet ready to dump either.
The "make password visible" icon on Choice is superimposed by the key icon of mooltipass. Multiple clicking and going back is annoying. Is there some way to automatically avoid overlapping icons. I am using Cinnamon.
Sometimes the password insertion tags on to the end of whatever is in the field already. Clearing the field first would seem to be a good idea. (Of course I could do this myself, and sometimes remeber to. Just as I sometimes remember to put two m's in remember.)
I have a bank account which has a username and password and a digitally generated key. I dearly want to dump the firefox remembering system as it wants to fill in all fields.
So far I am happy. A bit caught between wanting to pay attention to what is going on and yet wishing to just get on with blithely paying no attention to security at all. That is the conundrum of us all of course.

Great product, works a treat but took over 4 weeks to get to

Once I'd got my head around all the options, and downloaded the plugins and apps it is wonderful.
Spent two days batting all my logon details entered and generating more secure but non-memorable passwords for the important accounts.
Cloned my card, and put the copy in the safe.
Now it is basically seamless, the chrome plugin recognises most logon screens and a few clicks on the mooltipass and I'm in.

Great, considering getting a second one just for work..

Fantastic Device and Seller.

I ordered this Item and the first package was lost by DHL when it was closer to my end of the shipping process. Not the sellers fault. I contacted the seller about the issue and I had a device in my hands in almost 72 hours. I couldn't have asked for better service. The seller was pleasant work with.
Now onto the device. The device is well built and feels very sturdy in hand. Fully open source and every easy to use and setup with little to no knowledge. The documentation is written well.
You can only do so much when it comes to personal security and having unique all passwords for all accounts is very important. This device makes things so much easier for me because I move between multiple computers and still having access to all of my accounts without leaving a password DB from a password manager on every computer I own and use at work. I can use one device with a couple of cards is great for separation of work and personal accounts.

PRO's:
1. Build Quality is great
2. User Friendly
3. Fantastic seller
4. Open Source

CON's:
I only have one gripe with the device and that is the 31 character limit which really isn't an issue because that exceeds the NIST character requirements. I'm just a paranoid person and would like to be able to use 64 char passwords when allowed.

I would recommend this device to others.

Best Password Manager Available

I'm very happy with my Mooltipass :) After backing the Kickstarter campaign, I purchased additional Mooltipass devices for friends and family. The only secure place for secrets (passwords, encryption keys, etc) is offline and encrypted. The Mooltipass security model is far more secure than software-based password managers. The hardware is well-designed and the community behind the device is welcoming and responsive. Amazing product and an amazing group of people behind it!

Very good device - still new

This is a very good device; I like the perfect finish of the product; the metal case is superb, the navigation easy; screen size is just gorgeous.

I don't use Chrome, which is the product's main target on the PC, so I'm just reviewing when using Firefox.

Both on the Mac and on the Windows the device is not always detected - sometimes yes, sometimes no. The companion application is installed. Even when detected, when unlocked, on the browser still shows as locked.
I'm pretty sure these will be eventually be solved in further software upgrades.

As a hardware maker too, I congratulate on the very well executed hardware! It's a wonderful device and I'm sure to use it more and more!

Amazing security gadget

The shipping was little halting and took three weeks to arrive. This could/should be improved imho.
The unit itself arrrived in a nice small cardboard, with USB cable, grab strap and two Smartcards. Sadly my unit has tiny scratches on its surface - but i got instantly offered a replacement or partitial refund, top!

The Moltipass works like a charm:
Easy to setup and operate, self-explaining menu structure. The build quality is excellent and valuable. A nice piece of hardware!
I already bought a second one but there`s more to come!

My recommendation for everyone who likes to be independent from stationary software solutions.
