Programmable microcontrollers are becoming more and more interesting, and the Arduino board has emerged as the most popular place to start. Swizzle Circuits makes learning on the Arduino easy by putting all the necessary components you need to write fun and interesting programs, on one easy to build pluggable shield. Once the kit is completed, the Arduino Playground plugs directly onto an Arduino. A lot of thought went into including the right parts to let anyone write programs from basic to advanced. We feature (3) LEDs, a pushbutton, a rotary potentiometer, a little speaker, and a light sensor. Educators can use the Arduino Playground to teach students the basics of programming without fooling around with jumper wires and breadboard.

Assembly of the Arduino Playground is specifically designed for beginning students and is a fine way to introduce anyone to the art of electronic assembly. The kit features over 3 dozen soldering points but can be completed within one hour. After completion, the student gets to directly use the assembly to learn the immediate fun and ease of Arduino programming. The language used to write programs or 'sketches' has syntax common to higher-level programming languages such as C++ and Python, and serves as a great base to learn programming concepts. The Arduino Playground plugs directly into the bottom half of an Arduino, and requires no power. The components included on the Arduino Playground seem to be the simplest way of demonstrating how to interact with the Arduino. Two analog devices (potentiometer and light-sensitive variable resistor) provide ways to learn about reading, scaling and working with variable voltage readings into the Arduino. Multiple LEDs provide the basics of digital ON/OFF as well as a place to experiment with PWM signals for dimming and fading effects. The on-board speaker is a very exciting way to bring a project to life with audible responses through beeps and learning to program musical notes to make songs.
