Overall, well executed

The product itself functions flawlessly, and the interface is rather slick and well done.

The PCB and soldering are well done and everything seems affixed well and good.

My only (small) gripe is that the case itself is rather flimsy -- it's a quite thin, 3d printed shell -- for a fairly expensive product. I find myself being mindful of how I put it away in my tool bag.

That said, seller was communicative and shipping was fast, and being able to eliminate cable issues from your debugging set up is, to me, priceless.

Very useful tool

For months I had thought about about building a cable tester to find those darn USB cables that only have power but not data connected. This does that and much more. I already had the arduino and display so I ordered the board and box. It all went together flawlessly. Software download was as easy as it ever can be from google. I chose to solder a short cut off USB-A cable and soldered it to the arduino. I use a small pocket USB rechargeable battery pack.

Does more than I would have done and better.

I could not expect a better product - it does everything

I got the idea myself that an Arduino would be perfect to perform test of USB-cables but I had no idea how much and I would never have gotten so far as Doug has with his Touch Screen Cable Tracer! I was immediately sold (as we say in Denmark) when I saw his construction and ordered it right away.
Doug was also really helpful when my local postal service (PostNord Denmark) almost did everything wrong and (almost) returned it back to New Zealand but I was lucky and got it by chance from the post office.
The Touch Screen Cable Tracer is very well built and does everything as advertised.

Great tool, solves a lot of headaches quickly

Great tool, solves a lot of headaches quickly with identifying faulty cables.

Couple of suggestions (I bought the kit minus the 3D printed case as I printed my own):

1) Soldering the supplied USB cable to the bottom of the USB B power input is very fiddly due to the closeness of the 4 pins making shorts a likely posibility. Perhaps on a later revision, wider spaced solder pads connected to these 4 pins could be added in the free space on the PCB to make shorting less likely?

2) With the 3D printed case: an opening in the base for the barrel and USB power might be beneficial if the user doesn't want to use the supplied solderable USB cable (see pins issue above)

3) For another project, have you considered an audio/visual cable tester? HDMI, 3.5mm jacks, Component/Composite, TOSLINK etc?
I know some HDMI cables have circuity inside that may make them incompatible, but basic HDMI should work?

A great little device

Wonderful cable tester for USB cables of all sorts. I bought the already assembled version and it was extremely easy to complete. Caution though - you must get the display specified for it to work though. I tried it with another display and finally ordered the correct one from China. Now I'm happily using it. Wish it had the option for a rechargeable battery and a power switch though!
