Why not use the built-in IR on the flipper?

Well, you still need the built in IR on the flipper to program the flipper with new IR Signals as this is ONLY a transmitter. This said, when running unofficial firmware, you can turn on the "Debug IR" feature which will allow you to use this module. This will allow you to transmit at a much higher power than the built-in IR, which means you can turn on / off devices without having to point the flipper at the device directly. Advice: Don't test device in the next room while your significant other is watching TV 😂🤣

Technical details:

The IR Blaster is comprised of 7 high powered IR LEDs driven directly from the 5v rail. this operates the LEDs at their theoretical maximum brightness ensuring the signal is broadcast as "loud" as possible into the room. As long as the IR Receiver can see even a reflection of the IR being emitted, it should respond to the code being sent by the blaster.

How to Use:

There has been a little confusion on how to use this module so I wanted to put together a quick guide to help you get started:

You must be using unofficial firmware as currently the official firmware does NOT support the forwarding of IR Signals to the external GPIO Pins. I suggest Unleashed, Xtreme, or RogueMaster firmware.

You must enable "Debug" mode: go to settings ---> system ---> debug ---> ON

This is a 5v Module! You must turn on 5v to use it go to GPIO ---> 5v --> ON

After you follow the above two steps, when you enter the "Infrared" menu option, you should see an option for "debug" and then an option to send to Pin A7(2). Make sure this is selected or it will not work.

FAQ -

Q: The green light doesn't turn on, what's going on?

A: Make sure the board is fully seated in the Flipper, if you have a silicone case, you may need to adjust it slightly as the module is designed to fit snugly into the case. Also - Make sure you turn 5v on as this is a 5v module! This can be done under the GPIO settings. NOTE: Removal and re-insertion of the module will turn off 5v. When plugged into USB (such as a power pack) 5v is always on, and this step can be skipped)

Q: I have tried to turn on/off a TV / at a bar, store, menu, school, etc and it's not working.

A: Do not mess with devices you do not own, or do not have permission to mess with. Period. This said, if you do have permission, make sure that the device itself is working properly with IR to begin with. many systems, use RF or bluetooth instead of IR to actually communicate (I'm looking at you Fire-stick/TV) Also, try capturing an IR signal with a known working remote using the on-board IR Receiver, and then transmitting the saved signal with the blaster.

Q: The IR LEDs don't light up when I look at them with my naked eye

A: Infrared is not visible (or barely) to the naked eye. You need to "view" the IR using a camera (any cell phone camera will do). additionally, the LEDS used on the blaster, WILL illuminate SLIGHTLY red to the naked eye, if you are in a completely dark room, and I mean COMPLETELY dark.

Q: My Blaster gets a little warm after extended use, is this normal?

A: Yes, the blaster puts out a decent amount of power, and in turn creates a decent amount of heat, which is absorbed into the board. While the board might get a little warm, it should not get HOT. if your board gets HOT, discontinue use and reach out to me and I can arrange a replacement if it is deemed to be a manufacturing defect. Please note that every board is stress-tested before it is shipped and I cannot replace boards due to user misuse/abuse such as running higher voltages, illuminating the IR steady-on as if it were a flashlight, or modifying the board in anyway.

Q: RESTOCK WEN?!

A: SOON ;) - No seriously, I can only build so many of these at a time as it is a very time consuming process. Each unit is hand-made, and fully tested before being shipped, so please be patient :) I plan on restocking at least once per week, if not more often. Sign up for the Wait-List to be notified on restocks.

Q: Handmade? you mean you don't get these manufactured?

A: Yes, each and every Board is hand-made, all SMT is soldered by me, and all through-hole soldering is also soldered by me. As such, it takes time to build each and every board. Sure, it prevents me from stocking more, but it also ensures I can have a tight control on quality, and well, I enjoy it :)

Q: My order says it has been shipped, but the tracking says the USPS / UPS / DHL / etc. is awaiting the item and it's been a day or two, what's going on?

A: I work a full time job, I build these boards (and ship them) in the evenings, when the post office is closed. I try my best to get everything dropped off the following day, but sometimes circumstances (Looking at you NJ Traffic) gets in the way of me making it to the post office in a timely fashion. Just please know I make every effort to get packages dropped off to the post office at the earliest.

As such, I perform all shipping in the evening and when tracking information is sent out, it will show as the item is "awaiting acceptance" by USPS / UPS / etc. What this means, is that your items have been packaged, a label purchased, and has been placed in a shipping crate ready to be dropped off/picked up at the post office / logistics carrier. If your item has not moved from the "awaiting acceptance" status (after you have received the tracking info) for more than 3 business days, please contact me so I may investigate as there is a risk the courier misplaced the package as I hand-off the packages in a shipping crate and it is up to them to scan each package one by one. Specifically regarding USPS shipments - I utilize my local post office for all packages, this post office is wildly short staffed and overworked so I ask you have patience if you chose this shipping method which is one of the cheaper/slower options (ground/standard USPS).

For international customers using DHL: While service IS expedited over USPS (3 days vs 3 weeks) the service points to drop off packages are not near my home, which requires a special trip to deliver them. Fast shipping and product works great!

I decided to get the IR blaster after being dissatisfied with the range built into the FZ. I was expecting it to take awhile to get being that I ordered it during the holiday season and live on the west coast, but it arrived a day earlier than expected!

IR not working

Unfortunately my I r blaster isn't working. When I plug the device in it doesn't turn off any device. I even purchased a I r blaster lens. With the irblaster unplugged I am able to turn off my tv faster than with plugged it. Also when recording IR blaster no IR appears on camera. I think mine might be defective

Stunning. IR a satisfied customer

Took some fiddling and a firmware upgrade to figure it out, but tehrabbit's instructions were thorough enough to lead me to the light. Very effective, very well designed, creative, compact and built with formidability, functionality, portability and versatility in mind. I see there's even a 3D case printed for it now, which I'll have to get. Would be cool if there were a transparent one, because the silk-screening/printing is nostalgic, perfect and hilarious. Quick shipping & good product

This came in a few days. Very fast shipping. I run Xtreme firmware & followed the instructions about turning it on & it worked fine. I updated to the newest Xtreme firmware that came out on 07-04-23 & this product worked just fine. Haven't tested the distance it goes to, but did try my tv at a distance that it doesn't work without it & with it installed it works. Thanks!

Another amazing product!

Yet another amazing product from Rabbit-Labs... These guys are most definitely great with what they do and are very friendly and helpful throughout the process. If you happen to have any questions, they will be sure to answer them in a timely manor and help you, no questions asked. You ask the question, and unless your question isn't clear enough, they may ask you to explain you situation a bit, but other than that, they respond accordingly to any issues. Thankfully I have not had any issues and I say my last statement based off of previous business done with them. t3h Rabbit is awesome to speak to and very helpful. Definitely looking forward to more products from these guys and will continue to buy from them. I would definitely recommend them to many others. Awesome

Shipped very fast and made very well. Looks and works awesome. Drastically increases the range of the Flipper Zero infrared capabilities.
The only minor issue you may find you have to push your silicone cover out of the way, remove it, or cut it. To keep things simple I just put a couple notches in the cover so it's never an issue. There is no documentation with the product so I gave it an average rating for that. There is some setup required on the Flipper for use.

Not that bad, not that good either

Parcel came beat up like trash but so far the item works. Specially chose Fedex as a carrier but regretted doing so just for purpose of speed wise. Tested, it works like it should but doesn't work across rooms that is covered by a wall so in theory and practical, you still need to point the IR to the device you trying to control. In terms of range, it was a good buy. Thank you Rabbit!

SideNote: It works with RougueMaster firmware now that it has 5v and sending signal to external device in IR menu

Sorry to hear your blaster packaging arrived damaged / beat up, Especially by FedEx as I've had really good luck with them over USPS lately. In terms of performance, you should see much improved range / reflection off surfaces, but the blaster despite being more powerful than the built-in emitter, cannot break the laws of physics :^)

Please send me a message and I can see about troubleshooting and/or replacing the blaster if needed.

Also, there was a known bug in RogueMaster Firmware that prevented the blaster from working properly. I have been told this bug has been fixed in the latest firmware build and advise running the latest build if possible.

Works great!

It works great, but as of the time of this writing, it doesn't seem to work correctly with the RogueMaster CFW. I'll let them know that.

I thought it was broken at first, but I did get it to work fine when I switched to the Unleashed CFW. Haven't tried it with Xtreme yet.

Regardless, it does what it says it does, and rather well!

Really good quality

Only thing I did not like was receiving it in in a package with nothing to protect it it was just the board i guess I just expected a little box with foam or something but at the end of the day it did not get damaged in the process so yea not complaining just giving my opinion keep it up I would love to make YouTube videos showing off your products I watch talking Sasquatch and just call me coco so pretty up to date with these awsome boards

Professional Quality

Works great, and I am very impressed by the craftsmanship. The circuit board and soldering look professionally manufactured. The green power indicator LED is a bit bright for night time use, but this is easily corrected with a small piece of electrical tape. Thanks Rabbit!

IR Blaster works great!

Update : On FlipperZero Unleashed 049, you no longer have to turn on Debug Mode to get the board to transmit externally. It's conveniently now in IR > GPIO Settings and you get set "Send Signal To: External" and Ext Module 5v To: On".

Received the IR Blaster and got it quickly to work with my FlipperZero by turning on the GPIO 5V and turning on Debug Mode to get IR to transmit external.

One warning is that the board was thoughtfully designed to overcome the use of the FlipperZero TPU Case but at least on mine I had to wiggle a little to ensure the IR Blaster headers were making full positive contact with the socket.

Verified that the IR Blaster was working with a camera on my phone, and was able to turn my TVs on and off at a fairly decent range.

Only minor complaint is that the green LED on the front is pretty bright; a small piece of black electrical tape helps with that but I wish there was a hard/soft switch to turn it off. I do understand why it’s there so that you know you turned on the 5V GPIO power and that it’s receiving power.

Instructions for those of you going crazy thinking this thing doesn’t work:

1: go to settings>system>debug>ON
2: not when you go to infrared and sub-ghz you have extra options in the menu.

In the infrared menu you have the option to send the signal to pin 2. Which is what you will need to use your blaster.

Works great!

Works great! It took a bit to figure out how to use it but after I did it’s been excellent. I purchased after seeing the sellers Reddit post and decided to buy one. I tested on my tv and the ir can hit it even when pointing the exact opposite direction, the floor, the ceiling, different angles, ect. This will be great as the built in ir on the flipper is a bit iffy. Overall 4.9/5 as it took me a bit to figure out you had to enable the 5v pins and set the pin to a7 in debugging

one CFW and some settings later, ready to rock and roll

Whee! My first FZ module! Got it today, 8 days after ordering.

I had to wiggle the silicone case a tiny bit out of the way for the pins to seat all the way in the ports, but that was probably the biggest hurdle I had to overcome. :) (Well, I also had to install custom firmware, which wasn't that hard, either.)

In case any prospective purchasers are total newbies like me, I felt my way through these two items: Infrared >> Debug Settings >> Send signal to 2(A7) (instead of Internal) and GPIO >> 5V on GPIO >> ON and the blaster's green LED illuminated immediately, so I'm ready to remotely-control my brother's toilet from under the bathroom door. :)

(Looks like Settings >> Power >> Power Off flips the aforementioned settings to default values, so if you're a power-off FZ owner, you'll have to change those after each power-on, it appears.)
