What is it?

Drive 6x High Power LED's and a DC Motor in your diorama/tabletop terrain using a Cilgerran Castle board, mounted on a standard, off the shelf Wemos D1 Mini.

When you get a Wemos D1 Mini (amazon) to go with the Cilgerran Castle, you can drive various LED patterns, like random lightning flashes, high power yellow LED's with candle flicker patterns etc. Code examples are available from the github page below. All schematics are open source at the same site.

Why did you make it?

The Cilgerran Castle circuit board was originally intended to drive a bunch of higher power LED's. Driving small LED's is quite simple, but as we move to long LED strings and the 1 watt and 3 Watt "Star LED's", driving them from smart sources, like Arduino's becomes harder and harder as the arduino's and microcontrollers like them aren't designed to drive high current and power output.

With 8 potential control signals coming up from the Wemos D1 Mini board that acts as the brain, 6 of them were given transistors to boost their power output and 2 of them have been set up to drive a DC motor bidirectionally.

This item is for the board only. It'll come with the basic connectors, but that is all. A fuller kit is available from this store.

What do YOU need: - Basic soldering skill to attach pins to the board. - Ability to connect LED's, either using pre-wired LED's, Wire Wrap or Soldering. - A PC or MAC with a USB Micro cable to download code (examples, or your own) to the board.

What makes it special?

Tabletop terrain has a special set of careabouts. Small, Low Power (where possible), Easy to assemble (because tabletop gamers aren't always techies) etc. This board, with the software available from the github site allows you to control lighting on your table using either pre-written website on your own WiFi, or to use something like stage lighting software on your PC/MAC!

The high power LED's (60x more powerful than little 5mm LED's) require external transistors rather than those found built into the Arduino or Wemos platforms. This board takes care of a lot of that.
