What is it?

The Open AIR Mini is an open-source controller designed for the Ducobox Silent series and Orcon MVS-15xx ventilation systems. It enables seamless integration of your ventilation system with home automation platforms like Home Assistant for smarter and more efficient control.

It also works with other ventilation systems! Just make sure they use a compatible motor. For more details, check the compatibility section at the bottom of this page: Compatibility Details.

Important Notes

Duco Systems: Original wired sensors inside the box are supported. If you're installing this for a Duco system, let us know in your order so we can pre-program it for you. Otherwise, you’ll need to handle the programming yourself.
Orcon Systems: Original Orcon sensors are not supported. If you purchase an Open AIR Mini for Orcon with a sensor, we’ll include an extra mounting option.
RF Functionality: RF features in the original Orcon and Duco systems are not supported.

Wonderful product

This Open Air Mini is what I have been looking for since quite a while. Was unhappy with the way that my DucoBox Silent could be operated. The remote controls that I have in my home sometimes worked and quite often did not. Also the humidity sensor did not work as I felt it should.

Enter the Open Air Mini: you can make it do what the DucoBox should have been doing from the start. That is, when you have connected it to Home Assistant, and have set up some nice automations. You are pointed to the right place, and there is lots of forum talk on tweakers to be found.

Best solution for smart Duco ventilation

I was looking for a solution to optimize the ventilation performance in our bathroom. I highly recommend the Open AIR Mini. Installation was super easy. Now I can control the ventilation unit with HomeAssistant.

Highly recommend!

The PCB is of very quality and so are the components on it. It was exactly as advertised and 100% plug and play. I would highly recommend this product for anyone looking to smartify their existing ventilation system :)

Perfect solution, rock-solid operation

I am very happy I bought the Open AIR Mini! Installing was literally just a swap with the original (Orcon) board. It took me an hour or so to program the board and configure it properly, mainly due to scattered documentation, but once it was running I could integrate with Home Assistant with ease. Highly recommended!

Works perfect!

Very easy to install on my Orcon air vent. Only thing that was a bit unclear were the Home assistant instructions, but figured it out in the end.

A great piece of engineering

When our mechanical ventilation system was due for replacement I was on the lookout for something that would give me full control over the fan speed of the new system. Compared to the Shelly 2.5 I was using on the previous system, the Open AIR is so much better! It gives full control over the fan speed, and because it's based on ESPHome, it's not dependent on the cloud and has great integration with and community support from Home Assistant. The installation is well documented.

The only (small) issue I encountered is that it won't let me connect to a hidden Wi-Fi network from the pre-programmed software. But that was easily solved by unhiding the network SSID.

A great piece of hard- and software.

I have a standard Ducobox Silent and I wanted the Duco integrate in my smart home (Home Assistant) with several automations. I was very happy to find this solution because Duco it self does not support this. The instructions on the website were very clear and complete and made the installation piece of cake. I ordered the pre-programmed version with humidity and CO2 sensors. I also have a humidity sensor of Duco and this sensor is also integrated in Home Assistant now. The support (which I needed because of the Duco humidity sensor) was super. A great piece of hard- and software.

My best order of the century

The open mini air is a professional electronic card with a fuse and an excellent quality of made, I m very happy to find this product in open hardware and open software. The HA integration is very easy after you find on the github the WiFi default password.

If you're looking for perfection, look no further.

I have never purchased such beautifully designed and produced hardware on Tindie before. Absolutely exceptional in it's class. Communication with The Flamingo and shipping were also very good.

Works like a charm

I bought this product in order to be able to add my Duco fan to my home automation platform (Home Assistant). The product was well packaged and of good build quality. The instructions on the website for installation were very complete and easy to follow regaring the installation of the hardware. I only needed to google for the fallback hotspot password so I could connect to my WiFi. After that, Home Assistant had quickly found the device and setting up was easy. I now control the fan speed based on CO2 level and relative humidity. Next will be ordering the valves.

Amazing product

Great install and now full control over my ducobox inside of home assistant. Considerably cheaper and extremely more controllable than a default ducobox branded solution that I was looking at.

Highly recommend all of the ducobox components made by this creator if you want granular control over your MEV ducobox.

Just buy it, first class seller

I was already looking at a DucoBox silent when I came across this on a search for native Home Assistant integration. What an amazing well put together project. It also saves you money on the proprietary controllers and sensors. It was dispatched next-day and swapping out the motherboards was very easy. Only bit I got a little lost on was how to connect it to my network but that didn't take long to figure out. HA just detects it after you set the wifi network. Seller very responsive to messages so am sure I could have contacted had I remained stuck. Highly recommend both the DucoBox silent and the Open Air Mini.

Prima om de standaard duco smart te maken

Goed initiatief en snelle verzending.
Ook duidelijke communicatie bij verzending, met notie voor hoe te installeren van extra sensor.

Documentatie op site is wat verspreid, voor hard en software.
Na instalatie herkent HomeAssitent het direct als ESPhome, met alle controls en sensoren.

Highly recommended hardware for controlling home ventilation

I had a great experience with this product. The installation went really smooth and I could integrate it with home assistant instantly.
He is a really nice guy too, he personally delivered the product to me when PostNL failed to do it ;-)

Good quality, easy to install and works better than original

He shipped really fast and communication with him was good. He helped me through. Once I received the package I was happy with the quality, the installation was easy.

Don't overthink and get one of these and make your good quality Duco smart!

Also, integration with HomeAssitant was quite nice.

Super happy to control my Duco via Home Assistant

Via a forum I read about the Open Duco. I was searching for a way to control my Duco via Home Assistant. Open Duco is the perfect solution! Very easy to install in the Duco box and also to install in my home network. I'm super happy with it! :-)
