I have designed a new product which is based on a custom circuit board.
Once I have finished fine details to this new device I will list them for sale on this page.
If you wish to be informed when version 2 of the LVI is in stock please add this product to your wish list.
This device is necessary for connecting a SEGA dreamcast to a computer's modem via phone line. This is so that the dreamcast can get access to the internet. This is used in popular projects such as DreamPi.
It provides power to a dry telephone line allowing phones and modems to be used without a telephone network. This is popularly used with a SEGA Dreamcast to get online, but it can also be useful for connecting two computer modems together or even just two telephones.
In particular this is handy for computers with software modems. Any modem that needs drivers is a software modem. They do not produce their own line voltage. Two soft modems can communicate with each other using this device.
The problem that this solves is when connecting two modems or phones together with a phone line, without a telephone network in between there is no power on the line. No power means no sounds.
This device combined with a 9 volt battery provides voltage to a dry phone line. Did you know that the original phone networks ran on DC batteries? It's a cool history to check out.
The existing versions of this kind of product being sold online are very poor. I wanted to make something that was better designed, aesthetically pleasing and quality built.
My LVI’s components are properly soldered and insulated. Some of the ones I see for sale are electrical tape hack jobs.
I’ve built it into a phone coupler, with a cleanly drilled hole for the power wires using a drill press.
The power cable is secured with glue internally to prevent damage from the weight of the battery.
My LVI has a professional look and feel thanks to the phone coupler housing and the custom labels.
All other LVI's on the market take the same, inferior approach. They build the circuit into the phone line itself. This is not great for three reasons.
1) It looks ugly, plain and simple
2) The phone line is of a fixed length. My design has the circuit in a coupler instead, you can use whatever telephone line you wish. Any length, and color.
3) If the telephone line gets damaged on the other's design, the cable is ruined. If you damage the cables with my design, you simply replace the cable.
Lastly I ship them in an anti-static pouch.
1 x Line Voltage Inducer
1 x Dreamcast label
2 x telephone line (one to connect to each end of this device)
1 x 9 volt battery (or a 9 - 18 volt wall power adapter that you are willing to sacrifice)
This device is just one component of the DreamPi solution! You still need a raspberry pi, a dream pi image, and a compatible dial up modem for the raspberry pi. Please read the DreamPi documentation to ensure you understand what you are buying. Please see: https://segaretro.org/DreamPi

I try to ship all orders within 2 days to 2 weeks. Sometimes I get a quick spike in orders, if someone makes a YouTube video for example. In this case it takes me longer to put the orders together.
When you receive a shipping confirmation that doesn't mean it has physically shipped. It means I created a shipping label and updated the tracking status. This is because it's easier for me to keep track of things without making a mistake.
If I ship a product on Friday it may not get entered into the postal system until Monday. If there is a holiday in Canada it may be delayed by that additional day.
The inventory level does not represent the number of products that are pre-assembled. Products are assembled when ordered. The inventory level is a fuzzy calculation of how many raw materials I have on hand and how many finished products I think I can assemble in the estimated time frame.
